Journalist proposes three important questions ahead of Maignan’s return

Mike Maignan is close to a return and could even start against Atalanta on Sunday, but there is still a lot of mystery surrounding his injury.

It was all the way back on September 18 of last year that Maignan last played a game for Milan, and a few days later he would injure his calf in a friendly with France that began his long ordeal. Five months later, he has not yet made his return.

However the match with Atalanta on Sunday evening could mark his comeback if everything is yet to be determined. The 27-year-old did the entire training session with the rest of the squad yesterday meaning he has recovered, but given his long absence there will be extreme caution used before he moves from the amber light to green.

Franco Ordine wrote in his column for MilanNews about the situation linked to Maignan and he put forward three questions regarding his recovery and what happens in the future.

“As soon as Mike Maignan set foot back in the group to train regularly, the rush to bring forward his return started. On the question, which is not of little importance, I would like to say: 1) we need to trust Pioli and his ‘nose’ in deciding when the time has come to deploy him, as happened with Thiaw,” he began.

“2) I would also like the Frenchman to speak one fine day and explain to us, from his point of view, why this injury with two relapses lasted so long, that is, if it is really the fault of his personal trainer as some sources have suggested;

“3) can his recovery possibly speed up the return to the traditional 4-2-3-1 system? In conclusion, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if at the end of the week Pioli were to decide to extend the absence of the French goalkeeper by a few more days.”

  1. As happend with Thiaw? You mean when Pioli needed an extra defender, having switched the formation, and Thiaw magically got ready to play and became a strong player overnight? And then Pioli had the ‘nose’ to figure out exactly when Thiaw became ready to play. Ok, cool story bro.

  2. Any minute longer with Tatarushanu on a goal feels like a year, i would play a primavera keeper or give gloves to Tomori and i have a feeling they would all do better. Out od 20 kicks he manages to pick an oposing player 19 times even if he is between 5 Milan players.

    Please please bring back our champion even if he is limping he will be better and bring back stability
