GdS: Juventus to sell striker and rival Milan for Premier League target

By Euan Burns -

Juventus are contemplating selling Dusan Vlahovic this summer so that they can rival AC Milan for West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca, a report claims.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), the Bianconeri are planning for a turbulent summer in which they are potentially going to be without Champions League football because of their points deduction.

One of the players in the headlines is Vlahovic as he has underwhelmed. The report suggests that they may cash in on the Serbian and instead go after former Sassuolo striker Scamacca.

The Italian is a major target for Milan, though, who need a new No.9. This will make the job harder for the Rossoneri who would like to sign Scamacca on loan this summer.

A number of big teams are being linked with Vlahovic this summer such as Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle, so the chances of him being sold are high.

  1. Its not more than a day ago that juventus made it clear that vlahovic isnt in the market and that the clubs future would be build around him so in my view its questionable if the article is based on facts.

  2. Vlahovic would be amazing here. However he’s too pricey. If we take anyone from Juve should be Chiesa. Our flanks would be incredibly deadly and if we do get scamacca he’d have remarkable service

  3. If there is one guy I would say is genuinely the equal of Scamacca in terms of the broad array of attributes, it is Vlahovic.

He’s also better performed than Scamacca and younger. It makes it hard to believe that Juve is looking to proactively move Vlahovic on. In addition, Vlahovic has struggled with injury all season and is not in form. He has been awful for much of the season and he was awful at the World Cup. It seems highly unlikely to me that anyone is going to pay top dollar for Vlahovic right now.

So unless there is a UCL related clause in Vlahovic’s contract, that Vlahovic wants to exercise, it seems to me that Juve frees up money in ways that do not involve removing a centre piece for the project that would be effortlessly be built around Vlahovic (and Chiesa, Fagioli).

But, I’m paranoid about this. On this week’s podcast a fair point was made that we need variety in the number 9 shirt. Admittedly, Giroud and Scamacca provide a similar dynamic although I would say Scamacca is much quicker if not the express pace of someone like Leao. However, Giroud is 37 years old and is back-up quality, who doesn’t score enough goals and is more of a penalty box poacher. He also doesn’t score enough. He is the guy that should be relieving someone in the matches against lower table opponents we can’t score in.

Scamacca is the perfect player to compliment Milan’s system for the next 5 to 8 years. The quicker dynamic is the one we need off the bench, it is the one we should sign on a free transfer now and look to invest in long term (even it is looking for a small, quicker player who runs with the ball with a profile similar to Lazetic in terms of age, potential ability, etc).

The pace the attack can lack is something that needs to be cured on the RW anyway.

Even Giroud would look much better if the RW was good enough to spread the defensive focus of an opponent across the ground.

  4. I also meant to say that it would be so Juve to build its next dynasty around Italians while Milan stuffs around trying to be fashionable.
