Milos Kerkez left AC Milan due to a lack of chances, and after moving to Liverpool this summer, he is looking forward to facing his former club.
There was no denying the talent that Kerkez had coming through the Milanese ranks. However, the issue was the lack of space. At left-back, Milan already had Theo Hernandez, who was growing into one of the best full-backs in the world.

So, the decision was made for him to leave for the Netherlands, to develop in a starting role, which he did. That took him to Bournemouth, and after that, with him continuing to grow, he moved to Liverpool, as a result of being the best left-back in the Premier League last season.
‘It will be fun’
Of course, this path to a European-standard defender was already there for Kerkez, but it was not to be for him and the Rossoneri, which is a part of football. Especially when you have good players at the club in the same position.
Today, he spoke before the Reds’ game against the Diavolo this weekend, and MilanNews relays his words about facing his old club.
“Obviously, I played there and trained a lot with the first team, and I know a lot of the guys. It will be fun, and it will also be good for me to get more minutes and adapt better to my teammates. I can’t wait, it’s my old team and I have some great memories.”
How did we fail to see this player’s potential?

No good reason to let him go so easily. There were plenty of games to play but he was given zero chances. Look at any top team, they have two good players for every position. Most likely he could have shared minutes with Theo and as of a year ago or so could have been the main man. At least we could have loaned him our put in a buy back .
He only started playing for the AZ first team in 22/23.
That’s 3 seasons ago.
Loan him for the first year, share minutes with Theo for the second and take the starting role for the third (last season).
The issue is we gave him no chance like many others, is pure and simple incompetence
He was never going to start ahead of Theo when he was here and he wa inpatient with playing second fiddle. I’d say things worked out well for him.
If he was so impatient why did he go to AZ and play for the youth team for another 6 months? Could have been kept with some minutes and loans.
Do you see how many minutes playing time from ballo toure ? Below 500 min as theo deputy. He will not develop in ACM as bench warmer, theo also dont want become marcelo deputy , thats why theo leave RM ( club that have high chance win CL at that time) . Kerkez dont want become theo deputy
Other big club from this world would loan him or sale cheap to a middle range team with buy back clause. But Maldini…
I remember now. Was summer of 2021…we sell Kerkez and buy Ballo Toure….what a genius move. I bet my life Pioli don’t want to use an inexperienced young player and demand a more experienced one and Maldini listen to him 😆😆…such a genius…4 years later Kerkez is in Liverpool team and Ballo Toure is whiteout contract…
Coaches in Italy have a pathological fear to use young players. Of course are some exceptions but in general that’s the trend.

The problem is thinking we had current Kerkez but we didn’t. We had our own but probably even better Kerkez back in then in Theo. People are judging current Kerkez with current Theo when it comes to analyzing why he left us. He left for playing time, got it and developed into a good player. Theo back then was top 3 left back and possibly the best in the world when Kerkez was here. He was never going to get the amount of game time in order to develop to what he is now. And thats good for him,.kudos 👍

I would advise all Milan ‘youngsters’, with most of the promising ones turning 20 already, to follow his example ,cos there’s no future for them at Milan, unfortunately.
Milan kept buying mediocre players to be Theo’s deputy, and none of them could handle the task. Thus, we ended up having Thei being completely overworked, while Kerkez was being wasted on Primavera games. He could’ve developed as Theo’s protege, and become his heir at this point. But in typicl Italian fashion, Milan did not trust a young player enough to give him a chance… ever…
What about Dollarumma? We gave him a chance at 16 yo. But he ran away like that.
Everything’s under Maldini era, they have nice / great memories. Theo, pioli and the latest is Kerkez. At that time Kerkez was not ready yet and Milan already have the best LB ( Theo ). Who can beat Theo at that time ?? None…
