Timeless Giroud and electric Leao: All the key stats from Milan’s win against Verona

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan signed their season off in the best possible way with three goals and three points against Hellas Verona at San Siro last night.

Olivier Giroud got the opener from the penalty spot before Faraoni equalised, but a late brace from Rafael Leao sealed a win to finish the campaign. However, the night belonged to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his emotional farewell to football.

Below are the best stats from the game, as published on the official website

➤ Milan have won 43 points at home for the first time in a Serie A season since the 2010/11 one.

➤ Rafael Leão (15) is the second Portuguese player to have scored at least 15 goals in a Serie A season, after Cristiano Ronaldo.

➤ Giroud (11) is one of three players to have scored more than ten goals at home in this season’s Serie A, together with Lautaro Martínez and Victor Osimhen.

➤ Leão has now been involved in five goals against Verona in Serie A (two goals – the brace scored today – and three assists), better than against any other team in the competition.

➤ Olivier Giroud has scored 13 goals in a single season in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues for the first time since the 2015/16 one (16 on that occasion).
