Kjaer says he will ‘come back stronger’ from injury and admits: “I miss my teammates”

Simon Kjaer is currently recovering from the serious knee injury he sustained against Genoa last year. There is still some way to go but the centre-back is optimistic about the future with AC Milan.

The Dane has been an important player for Milan since he arrived in January of 2020, along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. His injury, therefore, was a blow for the Rossoneri and it’s only fortunate that they now have Pierre Kalulu to rely on.

In an interview with SimonKjaerGifs, Kjaer was asked about his recovery and how he feels about the future, with two months left of the preliminary six-month recovery plan. And as stated, he’s optimistic about what’s to come.

“It is going well. I am following the plan and working as hard as I can. My mindset and my goal is, that every day I must do a bit more than the day before. I am happy for every step forward, but I have to be patient, because it simply takes the time, that it has to take.

“Soon my knee is strong enough to let me do almost everything, and then I can step up my training physically. I believe, that I will come back stronger. It sounds like a cliché, but I am working on other parts of my body, so I actually believe that this is a chance to make my body stronger.

“I miss playing football. It is very simple, because even though it is also a job and a career, then my passion for playing football is the most important thing. If one day I suddenly couldn’t feel my love for football anymore, I would stop immediately.

“I miss my teammates, the excitement of matches, and I miss the fans. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for your support. Every positive message from all of you nice people warms my heart. So honestly, I can’t wait to get back,” he stated.

With the explosion of Kalulu, and the potential arrival of Sven Botman, it’s clear that competition will be even tougher next season and Kjaer’s starting spot won’t be cemented. Either way, getting him back will be a boost for Milan.
