Kjaer dejected after Spezia loss: “We just have to forget about it, mentally”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer has claimed that the game against Spezia was an even one up until the home side scored from a set piece.

It was an afternoon to forget in Liguria for the Rossoneri as they lost further ground in the race for a top four spot, a race which – unless they win the last three games of the season and other sides drop points – looks like it has been run.

When Przemysław Wiśniewski reacted to a header against the post to fire in from close range to put Spezia 1-0 up you got the feeling it wouldn’t be Milan’s day, then Salvatore Esposito’s wonderful free-kick doubled the advantage and sealed the victory.

Kjaer spoke to Milan TV after the game to assess what was yet another difficult night for him and his team-mates and another big blow in the top four race.

“It was an even affair. They scored from a corner kick and we were all in position but it’s the little things that make the difference,” he began.

“From our side, we didn’t play well. We are stronger than Spezia but today we didn’t play as we can. Obviously, today’s match was a very important one.

“We just have to forget about it, mentally, but obviously understand what went wrong before facing Tuesday’s game in which we’ll have to give our all on the pitch.

“Afterwards, whether we win or lose doesn’t matter right now, what does is that we give it our all. Anything can happen in football so on Tuesday we have to take the field with belief.”
