Kjaer believes Milan play ‘European’ football and suggests three-man defence could work

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer has revealed his delight after a hard fought victory against Sampdoria at the Marassi last night.

The game started in the best possible way for Milan as Junior Messias got his first goal of the season with a finish at the far post in the opening stages of the first half.

However, things would get more complicated when Rafael Leao received a second yellow card early in the second half and thus was sent off, with Djuricic equalising for the home side who made their advantage pay.

Nonetheless, the Rossoneri did not give up and they were awarded a penalty after VAR spotted a handball after an Olivier Giroud header from a corner, with the Frenchman tucking away the spot kick to win the game.

Kjaer spoke to Sky Italia after the game to discuss the game in detail, with his comments relayed by MilanNews and translated below.

On his emotions: “I am happy with the victory. It was a very hard game, I am very tired, but also very happy.”

On the three-man defence: “We have many players who could do well with that system. Maybe Leao would be in a bit of trouble right now with his quality, even if he doesn’t go back so much from time to time, it makes a difference. The coach is thinking about it, but with the many games to play it is not easy to try new things. It will be up to the coach to decide.”

On the team: “There is a great desire to improve. The mentality is very good. We have many players, so each player must always give their best to put the coach in difficulty. We have an excellent team, we are good together and this can make the difference. We are a family that wants to win.”

On the European style of Milan: “We are ready to have a great Champions League. Ours is more European than Italian football. It is true that Italian football has changed in recent years and we are the best in that kind of football at the moment. do better and score more goals, but we’re also good at defending.”

On the injury: “For me it was important to think about one day at a time. I always worked 100%. Every day I worked and then I reset for the next day.”

    when Leao misses Napoli?

  2. Ibwill precer we try the 3man defense against dinamo in champions league ,then know how it works and know if we can do it against Napoli….it will be hard to use a different formation for the first against a quality team like napoli

  3. Imo milan should try 3-4-1-2 formation…
    With Tomori-Kjaer-Kalulu at the back
Theo and Saele in the wings
    CDK/Adli trequartista
    Leao and Giroud up front

If it didnt go well, they can go back to 4-2-1-3 with Kalulu to RB and Saele to RW
