Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and captain Jordan Henderson have both paid tribute to Divock Origi ahead of his final appearance at Anfield.
There are now widespread reports confirming that Origi is set to join Milan on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract with the Premier League side expires, choosing to open a new chapter of his career in a new league.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Origi ‘has no doubts on his next destination’ and is just waiting to complete his medical and sign his contract as a new Milan player in the coming weeks.
Then, The Athletic added that the 26-year-old striker has agreed personal terms with Milan and while a contract has not yet been signed and a medical has not taken place, the Rossoneri ‘appear increasingly certain’ to be his destination.
Captain Jordan Henderson has all but confirmed Origi’s departure from the Reds as his matchday programme notes ahead of Sunday’s game against Wolves have been released early.
“It looks like today will be Divock’s last at Anfield for Liverpool so I hope he gets the kind of send-off he deserves,” he said (via This Is Anfield).
“Actually I know that he will because he has been such a special player for us, but he is also an incredible person who has taken this city and its people to his heart.
“His legacy will be his achievements for this club, but it will also be the good causes he has supported, like the local students he is helping to put through university.
“Today should be a celebration no matter what happens and as club captain I will certainly be celebrating Divock and wishing him all the best for the future. The big fella deserves nothing less.”
Klopp also confirmed that Sunday will be Origi’s farewell, with his comments relayed by Matteo Moretto.
“I expect Divock to receive a special greeting. He will forever remain a Liverpool legend. It was a pure joy to work with him. Wherever he goes, he will succeed. Everyone loves him.”
Everyone loves Origi. Belgian teammates, Liverpool teammates, fans. He will be a fantastic addition to our rossoneri family. I truly believe he will score over 20 goals for us next year and every year for years to come.
Not forgetting fans from his country of origin Kenya!!
