Rade Krunic has been a very important player for AC Milan since Stefano Pioli decided to play him in the midfield tandem permanently. And the Bosnian is aware of just how much he has added to the team.
The 29-year-old, who arrived from Empoli for a mere €8m in 2019, has had his proper breakthrough this season in the midfield tandem. Always working for the team, he has received the appreciation of the fans and also Pioli.
Speaking to Serie A (see the youtube video below), Krunic shared his thoughts on the role he has, as well as today’s game against Lazio. He stated that he doesn’t care about assisting or scoring goals, remaining focused on his specific role instead.
On his role…
“I think that people sometimes call me the balance-maker, and I can see myself in that role. I’m trying to find the balance between attacking and defensive plays, while always helping the team.
“For example, I ensure the opponent cannot counter easily. When we go forward in numbers, I stay back. If I see that we aren’t going forward with that many men, then I can push up. I always try to understand where my teammates are and what the team needs, of course. There are others that get goals and assists, they take care of that for me.”
On the objectives…
“The objective since the start of the season has always been the Scudetto, we always aim high. There were games we should have won, but that we didn’t. So I think Champions League qualification is now our target because Milan must be in the Champions League.”
On Lazio game…
“Every time it’s gone badly for us against a certain team, we have responded in the right way. I think that will be the case this time out, we will definitely do better than in the reverse fixture. We weren’t in the right mental state then, this game comes at a better time.”
Milan will face Lazio at 15:00 CEST today and Krunic will play from the first minute, as Pioli has decided to revert to his strongest XI. It’s a crucial game for the Rossoneri, who need to claim all three points.
