Official: Kyle Walker joins AC Milan on loan with option to buy deal

Today, AC Milan have announced the signing of Kyle Walker on an initial loan deal from Manchester City. However, a buy option has been included to make his six-month stay permanent.

The 34-year-old joins Milan after a difficult season with his parent club, where the Citizens have found themselves struggling in the title fight. With the Englishman recently being targeted with abuse and his first team minutes at risk of falling, he sought a move away.

Links to the Rossoneri first arose during the Cagliari game earlier this month, and despite initial suggestions that the right-back would look to cancel his contract with his parent club, all parties worked on a loan-to-buy agreement.

With Davide Calabria’s contract expiring and Emerson Royal sidelined for a few months, the Englishman could be thrown into a pivotal role in the early days of his spell at the club. In addition to this, his arrival could support the squad mentally, with him captaining the Manchester outfit to a Champions League win (against Inter, which only will raise the support for him on arrival!).

Milan posted a statement on their website this evening which reads as follows:

“AC Milan is pleased to announce the loan signing of Kyle Andrew Walker from Manchester City FC, with an option to buy.

“Kyle was born on 28 May 1990, in Sheffield, England. He started his career at Sheffield United and then joined Tottenham Hotspur, making his Premier League debut in March 2010. In the summer of 2017, he moved to Manchester City. During his time there, he played 319 matches and won 17 trophies. This includes six Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy in 2023.

“Walker debuted for the English national team in November 2011 and has been capped 93 times.

“For his time with the Rossoneri, Walker has chosen to wear shirt number 32.”

  1. Finally some quality transfer at milan! For some reason this gives me the same feeling like when robinho arrived at milan

    1. Milan won the scudetto few years ago thanks to the experience, leadership and maturity of Kjaer, Giroud and Zlatan. 2 of the 3 much older than Walker.
8f Milan gets 2 good years from Walker this would be a great transfer.

  2. I like the signing. We’ll see how many more miles he has on his legs. He can also play center back. Hopefully he will have the same effect at Kjaer did when he first arrived. Sure, they only got 2 quality years from Kjaer, but that is still good value. A better choice than Rahsfor at the moment.

  3. I think this is perfect. Next offseason, bring in a young player to compete and learn next year. I honestly think this team can win a lot now that the gaping hole at right back is fixed.

  4. A 34 year old to replace the ‘past it’ 27 year old.

Now we just need a foreign CB and a CF and we can rid this Milan side of Italians once and for all.

Anyone want some of my Parma ham from Copenhagen?

    1. LMAO Our RBs have been malfunctioning for several seasons now if you haven’t seen it. And name us some Italians.

Walker is coming on a loan, and is quality. It’s about winning. Not losing constantly like you.

      1. Those several seasons where we finished 2nd I. 3/4 seasons, and made it to the semi-finals of the champions league the other season?

        You deserve 8th.

        1. Living in the past is all you do. You deserve relegation. That’s what you would get us with a busted broken Calabria who is still busted and broken.

    2. I’ll take a 34yo walker over Calabria 10 out of 10 times. I’m italia too. I bet any Italian would make walker over Calabria.

      1. You’d take most players over our players so never sure why you even bother supporting the team.

Calabria has served the club during one of its most successful periods this century (where we collected only our 3rd Scudetto this century and made it to only our fourth semi-final of the champions league).

And you appreciated none of it. What a waste of time it’s been for you.

Your club that is now in 8th place in Serie A now regularly starts with zero Italians, and has been openly discriminating against its club captain by playing Emerson Royal.

And your club still doesn’t have a DM or a CF.

But your club has signed its second RB this season. And no doubt will sign another RB next summer and the summer after that.

Enjoy mid-table obscurity. You deserve every second of it.

        1. Has it ever occurred to you that Calabria is finished as a player and has been for three seasons now?

Also “your club”? So interesting you no longer follow Milan. You’re just a fan of one dude.

          1. He’s 27 years old and in the last two games has barely put a foot wrong.

But your disdain for our longest serving player is noted.

With fans like you who needs Inter.

        2. Ot is called facts, he was the best in his role in oast 5 years at least. This is a top signing. In football there is no space for sentiment. Walker 5 years from now will be better, smarter, and faster then Calabria at his peak.

          1. Without sentiment we are not a team.

Just a pointless collection of strangers who are 8th place in a pretty average league.

Plus it’s the 4th transfer window without replacing Tonali.

            Enjoy 8th.

        3. Your like a conspiracy theorist. You keep mentioning ‘your club’ so if it is no longer your club what are you still doing here? It’s funny that it took crappy Calabria to make you go off the rails. But let me tell you something. Yes Calabria was there during the good moments but Calabria was never good lol. If he was so good during those times how come he was never chased by other teams? How come he never made Italy’s preliminary teams? Truth is, he’s always been a weak point in this team but I’ve always admired his loyalty.

Walker is just proven to be 100x better than Calabria and we finally have someone who can cover that spot. If to your theory of never getting rid of players instead of buying then we’d probably be battling relegation. Get real, to become better you need to get better. Calabria has shown no signs of improvement amongst other players in years.

So go enjoy what team you now support and leave us loyal fans to care about what’s best for the team which isn’t Calabria. Must have pained you to see that armband taken away from him.

  5. Now sign Goretzka on loan too. Can comfortably play mezzalla, double pivot and AM, good in 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 formation, pressing is his game, I mean, common.

    1. Walker is durable and a better than average RB . It all depends how he is used……needs to be let loose to play aggressively going forward like Theo. When the duo advances Pulisic and Leao will/can be marked by only one. Defense was at a premium 5 years ago ,the game has evolved to speed and overwhelming a defense with bodies.

      1. We’re going to get more production from Walker than Emerson, and Walker despite being older, will be more of a valuable. I gave Emerson the benefit of the doubt, but he clearly hasn’t produced.

  6. The Winter mercato is always more of a challenge to sign players because it’s literally midseason. Walker is a valuable, experienced and quality signing despite his age. And yes, we’ve had RBs that have been performing poorly.

Emerson was a mistake to sign. Calabria is well past his prime.

          1. Bro, we still have Italians in the team. The other day you’re talking about supporting Como instead of Milan because Cutrone plays there now??? That’s not a real true fan who has been a fan for decades. Your allegiance is to the club not where players go unless you were not a fan of the club but fan of players. The decisions to bring whichever players is beyond us as fans. You think I liked Mesbah in the banter era? Nope but I still got up at 5 to watch the team play. You sound like someone bitter who’s not getting their way. With all due respect because you have other better posts

  7. This will change the game, it is a master stroke. Decide who stays as his deputy, preferably someone from academy and sell the rest. Take that miney and invest

  8. He will turn 35 at the end of the deal. Did they keep scouting him for the last 15 years?

This is not how the transfer system should work.

  9. Welcome Kyle! I feel like this is 2-3 years late but a welcomed addition nonetheless. Loads of experience and ability. Good luck because we definitely need it 😅
