Leao discusses his goal drought and increased ‘freedom’ in new formation

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the game between AC Milan and Atalanta, Rafael Leao spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the task at hand. The Portuguese winger is eager to get back on the scoresheet after five games.

Leao last scored in the game against Lecce and he has struggled points-wise since then, probably due to the switch to the 3-4-3 formation. However, still with the freedom to move as he pleases on the pitch, he’s now eager to break the drought.

Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, the winger shared his thoughts on the goal drought and also the new formation. Indeed, he admitted that he has even more freedom now compared to the 4-2-3-1 formation.

How much do you want to break the goal drought?

“I try to score goals in every game, but the team and the three points come first. It’s more important to win the game.”

On the new formation…

“The coach has found a different game model, we defend much better. I have more freedom of movement, we’re getting on well.”

What game will it be?

“Tough game, against Atalanta it’s always difficult. We’ve trained well, we know what we have to do and I think we’ll play a good match.”

San Siro is more or less sold out for tonight’s clash and it should be a great atmosphere. After three conductive wins, Stefano Pioli’s men are eager to make it four and continue on this positive trend.
