Leao discusses trophies, tattoos, toughest opponent faced and his idols

By Oliver Fisher -

Rafael Leao has declared that he wants to win the Champions League one day and he named the best moment of his AC Milan career so far, plus the toughest opponent he has faced.

Leao is without a doubt one of the most important players in this current Milan side and the leader of the attacking department, having developed year on year since his arrival from Lille back in the summer of 2019.

It is expected that the Portuguese winger will soon put pen to paper on a new deal until 2028 which would be a huge statement for the Rossoneri and a sign that he is committed to adding to his trophy collection after the Scudetto last season.

Leao answered some questions from fans on YouTube about a number of different topics from tattoos to trophies, and his comments were relayed by SempreMilan.it, starting with something he felt he had to do after making it at a top club.

“Without a doubt buying my mom and dad a house. They were the two people that helped me get to the top, they were always there and helped me. When you reach this level you always have to pay back these people who helped you,” he said.

On the toughest opponent faced: “Thiago Silva is an expert player, he has quality, he understands spaces well. The right word is smart player. Danilo is also strong.”

On the most important title: “The Scudetto. I’ve been at Milan for three and a half years and I’m heading towards a fourth. It was the title that Milan fans had been waiting for for some time. We had an incredible party, I had never had the sensation of winning such an important title. I think it was the most extraordinary of my career.”

On the next target: “In collective terms the Champions League, I’ve always dreamed of this trophy and I hope to achieve it one day.”

On his idols: “Cristiano Ronaldo is one of my idols. Hero? My father.”

On his unique habits: “Everyone has their own tics, their own way of showing when they do something they like. And mine, since I was younger, has always been showing my teeth and expressing what I like to do. I always laugh about it but it’s something you have no idea can happen naturally.”

On finishing in 14th place in the Ballon d’Or rankings: “I honestly expected to be in the standings but not that close to the top ten. It was a great satisfaction for me. Over the years I have shown my football, I have to thank all my colleagues, my club and the people who have helped me achieve this result. Next year I hope to be in the top ten. I think a player’s dream is to win the Ballon d’Or. I hope to achieve this goal.”

On tattoos: “Everyone has a very big meaning, everything I have on my body represents my trajectory. I have one with my father, perhaps this one is the most representative. I also have one with the date of my first goal in the Champions League.”
