Leao highlights his best position as he reveals desire to stay at Milan ‘for a long time’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has revealed that he is vowing for a starting spot soon and highlighted the position he feels most comfortable in.

It has not been an easy season for the Portuguese starlet since his big-money arrival from Lille as he has struggled to hold down a place in the starting XI, even despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury problems.

However, there has been a glimmer of light. Leao was on the scoresheet for the second time since the return of Serie A as he netted in Milan’s 2-2 come-from-behind draw with SPAL.

The Portuguese forward once agains started from the bench but made a significant impact after coming on at half-time, scoring an important goal to half the deficit.

He got a 6.5 out of 10 in our player ratings, and you can see a compilation video of some of his best moments here.

Leao spoke to Sky Italia on the day after the game, and his quotes were transcribed by MilanNews.

“I feel the confidence of the coach and my team mates and so it is easier to help the team,” he began.

“I work every day to play from the beginning. If the coach puts me on the field to play I am ready.”

When asked if his best role is as a winger, the 21-year-old replied: “Yes, there is more room on the outside for me, to run one on one and to assist or enter the box and shoot.

“My goal is to take a starting spot at Milan and be an important player. I am happy here at Milan, I hope to stay here for a long time.”

On the relationship with Ibrahimovic : “He is like an older brother, he gives me advice to do better. He is always smiling, a great companion. He gives me confidence, he is always calm. He is a different person off the pitch.”
