The AC Milan management are continuing to deal with the negotiation over the renewal of Rafael Leao’s contract, and his demands have reportedly been made clear.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that the issue of Leao’s renewal is an ongoing one and so far the situation has not moved forward to the extent that it could be considered unblocked.
To extend his current deal – which is set to expire in June 2024 – the Portuguese winger is asking for a salary of €7m net per season which would be close to five times what he currently earns.
Leao wants a salary which makes him by far and away the club’s highest paid player, but tonight against Tottenham in the second leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League he must show that he is worth the money he is asking for with a performance of big character.
Oh course he is worth 7m that is enrty level wage in most PL clubs. It is up to Milan administration to decide if we can afford him but each day that goes by he is becoming cheaper to sell
He has the skills no doubt but he doesn’t have the character or leadership and Enegry to be useful for the team for at least 20 min plus very moody
give him the 7M net per Season. We saw our weakness against Florence. Its difficult to find a 2nd Leao on the Transfermarkt, even he has not that costancy. If we loose him because of 1M it would be a pitty. We offered Donnarumma 8M net per season
Your 1M€ isn’t just 1M€. To give 1M€ more to him means 2M€ more per year (1M€ net + 1M€ taxes). Extending the contract for 5 years makes 5 x 2M€ = 10M€. So, that’s 10 times more than your “because of 1M”.
7m for Leao is still a bargain.
He’s asking for 7 million + his 19 million fine but he didn’t show his consistency. His goals already absent since he scored against Lecce back in January. Feels more and more he’s not worth 7 millions /year.
I agree that he is not consistent and not worth top money but 7m per year is far from top money in this day and age in football there are plenty of clubs that would not even notice his sallary on their books and we have to live with that fact. I don’t get that we are not rich and rolling in money but we spent almost his one year sallary to buy friking Mesisas and GK that is not ready what ever that means and now we are just wating unitl his contract expires so he can leave for free. Even if we overpay him now and sell him later is better than him leaving for free..
100%
Maybe RL17 wanna be another GOAT like CR7, Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo Nazario
Not gonna happen though. Those other players has had the desire and determination to be the best there is/was/will be. Leao lacks that ambition and willingness to suffer/work for it.
Milan always try to play smart when it gets to negotiation but will later end up making a horrible decision. If we had pen kessie for a contract earlier before the demand was raised we would have been stronger team now. 7m for leao is not a bad deal considering dude has a 19m fine to pay. Maldini is good in losing good players but end up getting trash. I believe next window Milan will concentrate on brahim Diaz and if the deal goes through that will be all for the transfer window. For crying out loud! If u want to remain at the top of the game you need to invest. You can’t pay every good playing penny because you want to give them a contract but when they lose form you will cut their wages just they did to Romagnoli.
100% And the club will get a bad reputation not like players are flocking to come to play for us already
Sell already, what is this nonsense? That leao cannot be replaced. Osario the Chilean, Victor Roque, Gabriel, Doku. The list is quite long, Enoch of this B.S . Just sell and invest the money
Isn’t the best outcome from here that Leao takes the rest of the year apart, gets a $10-20m pa pay day for it, we get in excess of EU100,000,000 and he goes with our blessing?
I have seen this sort of stubbornness / delusion at home, with management refusing to come to terms with reality and the team and squad suffering for it.
We have a poor squad in need of 4 or 5 starting players. Losing Leao needs to be thought of as the net impact of him being turned into 3 or 4 players.
