Leao laments fact Milan did not beat Tottenham by a wider margin

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has expressed his annoyance that the Rossoneri did not beat Tottenham Hotspur by a wider margin on Tuesday night.

Speaking to UEFA.com (via Milan News) after the Champions League round of 16 match against the Premier League side, Leoa began by showing how happy he was with the overall performance of his side.

“I am happy with the team, we knew it was an important game. We all knew what to do on the pitch against a great team. We did a good job and got an important victory,” Leao said.

Towards the end of the match at San Siro, the likes of Charles De Ketelaere and Malick Thiaw had headed chances where they could have widened the margin and got even closer to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. This is a source of anguish for Leao.

“In my opinion this match should have ended 3-0 as we had important chances. The most important thing is the victory. During the week the coach showed me the space to attack, I had to explore it, get the ball, then try one-on-one and find Diaz and Giroud,” Leao explained.

Milan and Leao know that the job is far from done with just a one-goal lead to take to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Portuguese international is aware that it will take another good performance to progress.

“We have done our homework, but there is still a game to go. We will play in London, we know it will be difficult, but we will go there to win and pass the round,” Leao said.

Milan won the game thanks to a header from Brahim Diaz early in the game.
