Leao says he is ‘proud’ to wear Milan captain’s armband against Barcelona – video

Rafael Leao has expressed his pride at being the AC Milan captain for the match against Barcelona in the United States of America, whilst also discussing the new players at the club.

Speaking to Milan TV after the 1-0 defeat in which Ansu Fati scored a superb winning goal, the Portuguese forward was asked how it feels to have the captain’s armband at a club he has been at for a few years now.

“It’s a moment I’ve been waiting for for a long time. When I saw Theo [Hernandez] come off I told him to give me the armband because I wanted to wear it. I hope to wear it in important games too. I’ve been here for four years, I’m proud to finally wear it,” Leao said.

AC Milan have had an incredibly busy transfer window this summer, which Leao has not been a part of after he signed a new contract with the club at the backend of the 2022/23 season.

He had a lot of praise for the performances of the new players at the club, whilst also praising Milan for playing in a pre-season tournament where they have faced the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, as well as Barcelona.

“The new players who arrived are strong, they raised the level of the team. The club did well to accept to participate in this tournament, it is important to face such strong teams,” he said.
