Leao sends message ahead of Euroderby: “Adversity awakens us” – photo

By Oliver Fisher -

Rafael Leao has sent a message ahead of AC Milan’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter with a post on social media.

Leao did the full training session with the rest of the squad today and is therefore expected to start on the left wing tomorrow as the Rossoneri look to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit to reach the final.

With a post on his Instagram, he said: “Adversity awakens in us capabilities that, in favourable circumstances, would have fallen asleep. Come on Milan.”

  1. Nice. Bit it is also crazy te expect pass inter. I think odds on bookies are so small that more advantages have sea to start speaking.

  2. “adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” -Horace

Tough times can bring out the best in you.

The kid is smart, or he has smart people around him to tell him these things.

  3. it’s one thing to know these wise sayings, it’s another thing entirely to reproduce it’s essence when required. fingers crossed.

  4. ALWAYS BELIEVE!!!!

    FORZA MILAN!

We can get it done tomorrow! Magic Mike in goal will keep a clean sheet and Leao/Theo/Giroud/Tonali/Diaz/Saelemakers — they will create goals and we will get it done!

Champions League is OUR tournament! We have 2nd most titles after only Madrid! Andiamo ragazzi!

  5. We were facing adversity in not finishing top 4 before the loss to Spezia. Why did we not awaken then?

    1. Juventus potential repunishment and Spezia’s position in the table kind of negate the adversity felt at that serie A match. The loss to Spezia is a wake up call, now even with juve repunishment, they can still finish above us.

I guess we could also say adversity awakens Leao as he didn’t play that match.

      1. “now even with juve repunishment, they can still finish above us.”

Exactly! Juve is 8 point ahead and will probably lose 9 points as the punishment. But when they’ll win Milan at home they’ll bounce right back on top of us and leave Milan out of UCL. Probably Roma will overtake us too.

    2. Or against Salernitana or Lecce or Udinese…
It’s a little too late to wake up now when we are 4 points outside top 4 with only 3 games left.

  6. IMHO, going deep into CL caused a kinda double edge sword for these young players of ours. Notice that after the knockout stage, we generally played really well apart from the recent semi final loss, with Serie-A matches placed on the back burners.

I think many of these players had became too focused on these CL matches and as the result, neglecting/taking it easy/simply doesn’t care on Serie A matches. Otherwise, I simply can’t comprehend how we kept clean sheet on Spurs for both matches, and Napoli (until literally the last minutes of the second match), yet we are like Santa Claus, giving out free goals in the league.

    1. We were afwul from January till April as well. There weren’t many UCL games then.
      It’s actually very simple.
Against teams that are on the same level or better than us, we perform better because those teams come to attack and win and that leaves Milan with an opportunity to punish them on the counter attack, which is our only way of scoring goals.
Lesser teams sit back and punish us on the counter because we can’t score a goal vs low block. And we can’t score goals because we don’t have players that can beat their man in tight spaces, make passes in tight spaces or even send a decent cross.
That’s why we need to sign quality midfielders and wingers who are actually useful in every situation, not like the current ones that can only run fast on the counter attack when they have acres of green grass in front of them.
Our system under Pioli over the last 3+ years was based on high press and counter. That worked while Pioli had the players that fit that system, especially Kessie. People’s emotions and hatred don’t allow them to understand and admit how important that man was for our system. We dominated every midfield. Now we are getting dominated every game. Our press has Been non existent this season. You can’t replace Kessie with his back up and expect same performance. There is a reason one is a starter and the other a back up

  7. Will only take a miracle to advance after this!

But whatever happens, Jesus is still Lord of Lords, AMEN!

  8. Milan will advance to the final. I expect this game to be their finale, no doubt about it. However be prepare to be thrashed 5-0 by MC in the final. Milan inconsistencies are too frequent.

  9. I know inter will choke their midfield knowing we will attack. We need to improve on our killer instincts, especially Diaz. He misses unbelievable chances over and over again. If we can score Inter first ,then Inter will enter panic mode. To me, I would prefer Thiaw replacing Calabria. Calabria is awful.

    1. ” If we can score Inter first ,then Inter will enter panic mode.”

LOL. If. 😀 It’s Milan who have been in panic mode for soon half a year now. Inter has everything in their hands and that’ll probably show on the scoresheet as well. Prepare for a total annihilation. And not in a good way. Unfortunately.

      1. Probably just draw. Their track record knocking porto and benfica are win first then draw on second leg, they will play safe defensive waiting counter atack and AC Milan hard to score goal versus team play defensive . AC Milan dont have player that can send good crossing or key pass in tight area , we only have good sprinter for counter atack
