Lecce president confirms desire to use option on Colombo but expects buy-back

The president of Lecce – Saverio Sticchi Damiani – has confirmed that the club intend to exercise their option to buy Lorenzo Colombo from AC Milan, but suggested they won’t have him for long.

Milan made the decision to send Colombo out for his first loan spell in Serie A and he scored five times in a positive league campaign which culminated with him netting the penalty in the penultimate game of the season that preserved their top-flight status.

There have been a number of reports circling since about what the future holds for Colombo and whether he could join Lecce permanently, come back to Milan and be loaned out again or even join the rotations.

Damiani spoke at an end of season press conference in which he took stock of what was an up and down campaign for the Giallorossi, and he was asked about the future of Colombo.

“For Colombo and Falcone we will exercise the options to buy, we will pay the sum. Then Milan and Sampdoria will be able to exercise their buy-back,” he said (via MilanNews).

  1. The main attraction for me with Colombo is that he’s young and Italian. Other than that he’s okay but hardly anything to get excited about.
