Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani has heaped praise upon AC Milan forward Rafael Leao after the striker scored twice against his side on Saturday.
Speaking after the match on Sunday to Nuovo Quotidiano di Puglia (via Milan News), Damiani assessed the game which ended 2-0 to the Rossoneri.
The two goals came in each half from Leao who has hit a very good patch of form in recent weeks. Damiani was clearly impressed as he assessed the match.
“I saw an important performance, a team that was alive, very much alive, with a great desire to fight against a great opponent, galvanised by the enthusiasm of European qualification, with a simply amazing Leao,” Damiani said.
He also added that the game could have gone in a very different direction had Lecce managed to grab the lead from an earlier chance.
“Who knows, if that ball had not hit the post, with the goalkeeper beaten, perhaps the match could have taken a different turn. The goalpost is one of those moments that haven’t gone out way in recent times,” he said.
Lecce have been left in a perilous situation in Serie A after a poor run of form that has coincided with Hellas Verona climbing their way closer to safety. Marco Baroni’s side certainly needs at least a couple of victories in the final eight games if they are to stay in the division.
