L’Equipe: Maignan and Theo Hernandez now expected to start vs. Germany

Theo Hernandez has recovered from his calf issue and is now expected to start against Germany tomorrow night, according to reports.

Theo Hernandez had missed the last two training sessions with the French national team due to a calf problem that he sustained in the win over Ireland on Thursday, but it was an impact injury rather than a muscle problem.

The good news for Stefano Pioli is that Theo appeared with a smile on his face as Les Bleus reported for their departure towards Germany, and the fact he is involved means that he should be fine for the derby on Saturday.

As reported by L’Equipe (via MilanNews), Didier Deschamps has changed his mind regarding the game in Dortmund. Despite the individual training sessions for Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez in recent days, both are now expected to start.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Pavard, Saliba, Todibo, T. Hernandez; Tchouameni, Camavinga; Coman, Griezmann, Mbappé (cap.); Kolo Muani.

  1. That would be a dumb decision by Theo to play in a meaningless match and risk an injury right before the derby. Come on Deschamps. Your don’t have enough options on the wings? Wtf??

    1. “That would be a dumb decision by Theo to play in a meaningless match and risk an injury right before the derby”

Is it his decision to make 🤔? Or Deschamps will call him up in the starting 11 he will be like “no I’m not starting this match, I have a match against inter”

If Theo or any other player decides to ignore a call to fixture in a match for his country, there may be consequences that will cause that player their international career.

Reason before accusing a player please.

    2. Milan is a business. It’s just a job. We had a reminder when a lifetime Milan fan and football prodigy was sold this summer. So I don’t understand why players should favor their club over their national selection.

There is no such thing as a friendly game between France and Germany, and Théo and Mike have a competitive spirit. It makes sense to me that they are pushing hard to play alongside Mbappé, Griezmann and the others guys for a win against Germany.

    3. The coach is dumb, the match is dumb but unfortunately the players don’t have a choice. Hopefully Theo strolls around for 45min and gets taken off at halftime.

    1. Lies.
Theo in his early season at Milan he wasn’t even being called up by Deschamps.

If he should jeopardise his international career it’s still Milan fans that will insult him and call him all sorts of names.

      1. I think you are missing a point here because in the early ninetiess when teams was catered bu locals milans team actually was deemed food poisoned or at least it was suspected and that was in marseille where descamp played . There was also the incident with the flood lights in marseille.
at least that what i read into IKWYDLS comment but i might be completely wrong as i doesnt remember deschamps getting any bans for drug use but he was a marseile and juventus player and even a coach in serie b,

        1. I was being a little facetious here. It wouldn’t put that crazy theory passed anyone. I do remember (as a kid though) for such a stellar team, we looked waaaay more tired than Marseille when clearly we were vastly better than them.im quality and physique. Add to that we were laying siege on them in the final minutes when the floodlights went out. Then Galliani, in his gangsta days with the trenchcoat lol, refused to have the milan players come back on the field after they “fixed” the lights because he thought they were playing games when we had the momentum and with some time left on the clock. I believe he got a ban from Europe for that. Plus it later emerged from the Marseille’s own players including Desailly said that they were given drugs before the game with some claiming to have clearly enhancing capabilities. Say what you want but that has to be the most controversial UCL final in history and Milan and Galliani have done well to avoid the conversation around it. That game always struck me as weird

          1. Oh i missed the cl “final” part of your comment.
It wouldnt be the first time though that teams food has been tampered with so if they actually think they were i have no reason to question that as it was different times but who knows what happened.
It was actually ac milan that was banned in europe because they refused to play the match to the end.
Marseille should have been stripped of their cl victory as it soon after came to knowledge that bernard tapie had been orchestrating match fixing in ligue 1 so if they indeed did drug themselves or our players it really shouldnt come as a surprise as they had already shown willingness to cheat to get there.

  2. It’s a meaningless friendly, these games are designed for the young guys to come in and show the manager what they bring to the table. There is zero reason to play Theo and Mike who trained separately because they were not 100%.

  3. It doesn’t make sense starting this guys no training for two days yet you included them in your starting lineup I see you have collected money from inter for this? Both players don’t have a choice on this regard there will play no matter what since declared fit by the medicals

  4. If you go into a game easy and hoping not to get injured, you are the one who will be injured as its usually the half-hearted tackle that gets you hurt if the opponent is determined. In this case determined to prove yourself to potential new managers. So Germany will be fired up.

Theo worked hard to fight to get into the national team. He would be best advised to give his all during the game. Top form is not a tap that you can turn off for friendlies and on again for important games. You need consistency to be kept sharp.
