AC Milan are keen on securing their spot in the Champions League for next season but the top-four race continues to be very tight. In the meantime, their owners RedBird could be forced to some structural changes due to Toulouse.
RedBird are not just the owners of AC Milan, but also Ligue 1 side Toulouse. Gerry Cardinale bought the club when it was relegated to the second division and managed to achieve promotion back to the first flight in the first season.
Yesterday, Toulouse won the French Cup as they beat Nantes 5-1. As a result, they have secured a spot in next season’s Europa League but it might go to waste, given that UEFA only allows one team per owner in the competitions.
As reported by L’Equipe, via GetFrenchFootballNews, Milan will have priority over Toulouse if they were to qualify for the Champions League or even Europa League (league ranking and country coefficient in that case). In the event of the Conference League, though, Toulouse will have priority.
In order to have them both in the European competitions, Gerry Cardinale and RedBird will have to carry out ‘structural changes’ in a very short period of time. This was done by Red Bull Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg back in 2017, but there might not be enough time to mimic that.
