Libero: Atalanta express interest in signing €35m Milan man on initial loan

By Oliver Fisher -

Charles De Ketelaere had a first season to forget at AC Milan and he could leave this summer but remain in Serie A, according to a report.

According to Libero (via MilanLive), Atalanta have not been put off by the poor debut season that De Ketelaere had after his €35m arrival from Club Brugge and are thinking about an attempt to sign him.

Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is a bid admirer of the Belgian and their plan is to ask Milan for a loan deal perhaps with an option to buy or at least a verbal agreement to discuss a permanent deal.

Atalanta usually play with a 3-4-2-1 as a basic formation, giving great freedom to the two attacking midfielders behind the striker. This could be a better fit for De Ketelaere compared to the 4-2-3-1 where he has not yet really found a role yet.

Gasperini is known for developing young talents too and therefore the 22-year-old would be guaranteed a level of playing time that the Rossoneri might not be able to.

      1. It doesn’t matter. Sometimes you have to take a loss. Also it will improve relations with Atalanta, which will be useful when Pioli is sacked at the end of the season and Millan want to bring in Gasperini as his replacement.

  1. €2mn loan fee and €28mn buyout option. Think this works all round. Gets him serie A experience rather than wasting away on our bench.

Could turn into another Paqueta sure, but then we sell without taking a loss after amortisation, on the balance sheet. Its a risk we’re taking if he explodes but 2bh he’s never gonna do well under Pioli next season.

Ideally I’d send him on a dry loan for 1-2 seasons with no buyout clause but I don’t think Atalanta would accept those terms.

    1. Paqueta hasn’t developed into a World Class player since he left Milan. He did well in the farmer’s league, he’s been okay at international level and for West Ham. He’s certainly not one of the best MFs in the World.

        1. On what ground (or alternate universe) they’re willing to do that? Man utd just made an initial bid for Hojlund. While CdK, he couldn’t even do memorable things in the less-pressure u21 competition.

      1. Huge loss for atalanta . Swapping their prized gem with normal rock . Even if ACM give cash 10m euro + CDK for rasmuss still loss for atalanta . The most important for young player are mentality to grow & adaptation to new country/tactic/ teammate. SMS come from belgium league at age 20 to serie A ,his 1st season with pioli in lazio but he hire privat tutor to learn italian languange, choose house near formello ( lazio training base) , learn from senior like parolo / biglia. CDK dont have both mentality & adaptation

        1. Attitude of Leao is more worse, when he joined Milan. They are very young players, who came out of comfort zone first time, it takes time also we have seen in this system we never had a good players as atm with Pioli.
We have sold lucas Pacqueta but he went to ligue 1 and PL, he is key player in both teams.
If à player doesn’t suit for à system, its problem of system or coach.4231 is played by very less teams and also young kid like dekaetelare its more difficult with the immédiate demands

  2. Now Morinho wants Greenwood at Roma, please, please, in the name of God, let’s sing this guy, please.

  3. He played as a midfielder in euro u21 and did well why not try him there for real I bet he will be better than loftus-cheek if he’s given a chance and confidence

  4. To me he is a great player, the coach just have to look for some formation that suit some palyers. Not all players that know how to play the 4, 2, 3, 1.Sometimes the coach might start with this formation and as the game goes on he might decide ti to switch formation when substituted is being made. I tell the coach dont joke with popega, cdk, and Adli. For instance popega plays like steven Garrard, cdk is like kaka and Adli is another pirlo after tonali is gone.

  5. No faith in CDK here whatsoever…. Sure he had a rough start. Another year will tell. If he goes to Atalanta, Gasp will develop the $hit out of him and he won’t want to come back.

  6. Atalanta don’t spend over 25m on a transfer. Their second highest is Boga for 22m. They are the kings of buy cheap sell for more….the very game we’re trying to get into
