Longo: How Milan’s midfield could look against Cagliari without Krunic

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will have to make do without Rade Krunic against Cagliari on Wednesday as the Bosnian sustained a muscle injury against Hellas Verona. It looks like Tijjani Reijnders will be the one to replace him.

Krunic left the pitch with an injury in the second half and tests will be carried out tomorrow to determine the extent of his injury. He could be out for a month, as was reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport, and he will certainly miss the next few games.

According to Daniele Longo, Reijnders is in pole position to replace Krunic in the No.6 role against Cagliari. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also set to play from the first minute, while there will be a battle between Yunus Musah and Tommaso Pobega for the space to the left.

Yacine Adli is also an option for the deep-lying role, as was confirmed by Pioli, and it remains to be seen if he will get the chance against Cagliari or Lazio. In any case, the situation is far from ideal.

  1. Both Adli and Reijnders should be tested next game in as a #6 because we have harder games coming up so it wouldn’t be smart to do it than. So maybe play Reijnders for 60 minutes and then let’s Adli come of the bench.

  2. I sound crazy for saying this, but I hope krunic recovers fast, cuz he’s actually been playing very well for us in that position. Not saying he’s been fantastic, but decent. And he’s very selfless. So yeah, come back stronger Lord Krunic 💀

  3. Reijnders could actually be good in that position. What he was doing up until now was a bit amateurish. Like I’ve said, a lot of running and passing but not really concrete. You can pass the ball back or to the side 300 times without failing a single time, it is still useless. I really hope to see what could he do as the “no.6”, not impressed by anything up until now.

    1. You can also pass 300 times & miss 150 of them, for example. It is very important to have a player with precise passing accuracy. Absolutely not useless.

      1. LOL. Defenders have over 90% passing accuracy, how much use of those passes is? Same like his. Be realistic. Also, which professional player has 50% pass accuracy? You’re joking, right? Nobody anywhere. Not even villagers from Faroe islands.

        1. While passing back/side is often a trivial way to keep rhythm, I’m not sure the Krunic criticism is merited.

From the 6 passing back is more about seeing the next angle. The other team is locking down the forward lanes so seeing Calabria or Thiaw and understanding the pass they can make rather than forcing forward is key.

Krunic is a key to our success so far. Works hard, limits mistakes (his own and others) and clearly has the trust of his mates.

All that said I’m excited to see TR ot YA in the role. I just wish it was intentional rather than necessary.

        2. When I was playing, my passing was always quality. Hence I respect players of a similar mould.

Reijnders is a fantastic passer of the ball & I very much like him for that aspect of his game.
