Longo: Moncada’s favourite emerges as Milan want a young centre-back

Maxime Estève has ended up on the radar once again as AC Milan are looking to complete their defence with a young centre-back this summer. While the interest is concrete, however, the price tag is rather high.

Estève has been linked with Milan in the past and he’s one of the players that Geoffrey Moncada has discovered, as highlighted by Daniele Longo. This past season, the 21-year-old made 23 league appearances for Montpellier.

According to the journalist, Milan want to complete the defence with a young centre-back and Estève is one of the players on the wish list. The problem is his price tag of €6-7m, which is a lot for a fourth/fifth-choice centre-back.

In order to make an offer for the left-footed player, Milan will have to sell a few of the outcasts, as the journalist concludes. Currently, Stefano Pioli has the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu at his disposal for the heart of the defence.

  1. He’s 1.93m, so certainly a tall CB. I don’t know much about him beyond that. Certainly one Moncada has scouted. Since we are already selling Rebic and Messias, I don’t see an issue as far as funding a transfer.

      1. His price isn’t that prohibitive either as long as we sell. I mean we signed Thiaw for 6 or 7 million too.

If we played Thiaw and Esteve at the same time, that’s a tall back line for sure.

        1. Agreed and we need these options because kjaer hasn’t been at his best since his operation and Tomori loses focus too much

    1. He was playing LM, then LB before finding his best role as a CB. He’s young, huge potential, he could be the Thiaw of this mercato.

  2. Its nothing wrong to add this lad to our squad, …with some tomori “small mistake and slip”, kalulu and thiaw inexperience, plus kjaer aging play i think he could be very useful option, i just wonder if gabbia coming home stronger from spain how solid our cb then

  3. If AC Milan should get this guy believe you me,this season with all the deals already sanctioned AC Milan would challenge for every title in Italy and might even reach the semi finals again if the team growth is without much challenges because all the signings are talented,so this is not the Yong Kong Chinese era but next season believe me when I say this team would break barriers and in three years if this vision is what I envisioned AC Milan would grab the Champions League because it’s in the DNA.This Management means business. This Esteve guy is bold and solid with technical quality reminiscent of a midfielder,so definitely he’s courageous with ball at his feet and also strong in the air and good reader of game.AC Milan fan with what am seeing just be patient and let the season begin cause I can’t as football is about brain and this guys gat it.

  4. I have a bad feeling that we’re going to need another CB this season. The way Kjaer has begun the campaign, struggling for fitness, is not a good sign. Kalulu is good, but I’m still not convinced he’s a proper CB. Then, you never know which Tomori is going to show up. We need a strong, tall, left-footed CB for depth and, if he develops well, as an eventual upgrade to Tomori.

    1. It’s double fold. Kalulu may be forced into RB because it isn’t just Kjaer with fitness problems, but also Calabria. If Kalulu is forced into RB, we are left even more short as far as CBs. Kalulu may be better as a RB anyways.

So yes, this is a signing we actually do really need.

  5. We already have Jan-Carlo Simic for 5th CB. No need to spend more. Simic already looks ready when facing Real Madrid.

  6. We need him if we can sign this tall boy with good intelligent good back up for CD ve watch his games I can’t wait to see him in our team last season we conceive stupid goal against low team we must focus on our defence our signing this season is super let add two more defenders to it
