Longoni: Chukwueze takes ‘a step backwards’ with poor display against Frosinone

By Isak Möller -

Samuel Chukwueze got the chance from start in AC Milan’s clash against Frosinone yesterday, hoping to build on the goal against Borussia Dortmund. However, as highlighted by Andrea Longoni, he took a step back instead.

The Nigerian has been struggling at the start of this season but finally got off the mark with a great goal against Dortmund mid-week. Against Frosinone, however, he didn’t have as much success and was named the clear flop by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Several players did very well for Milan, such as Theo Hernandez and Luka Jovic, but Chukwueze took a step back as argued by Andrea Longoni. In his editorial for MilanNews, he highlighted the Nigerian’s main issue.

“[…] On the other hand, Chukwueze took a step backwards compared to the positive performance in the Champions League against Dortmund. Too many mistakes, sometimes he wants to overdo it but it only creates confusion,” he wrote.

Milan will face Atalanta in the next round and it remains to be seen if Rafael Leao will be back for that game. If not, then Chukwueze will get another opportunity to prove himself, having arrived for a fee of €28m including bonuses in the summer.

  1. Longoni, give Chukwueze a break. Let’s give him a break. This is his first season. He is a dribbler allow him , if he does it and it does not go through successfully. He will still dribble cos that’s his skill. He is over doing nothing. Is Leao of Season 1 the same as Leao of Season 4. Allow him to grow. You journalist talk too much.

    1. Very slow when drribling, I mean not such a player how can quickly get rid of his opponent, they can see him from very far, it’s easy to dispose him of the ball, not good at shooting neither crossing.

  2. I critized Chuk a lot in here and even called him mediocre or not worth 30 million.

But against Frosinone i don’t think he plays that bad. The first goal was from his cross which wasn’t perfect but Jovic got it done.

After that, Chuk run and dribble a lot and created some nice chance. I can see him improve more but we’ll see…

    1. He lost about 10 balls, every drible he tried he fail and lost a ball , i have never seen a winger that fails every single dribling atempt

  3. Laeo didn’t start great in his first or second season. Give Chuks a break.
He was the reason for the first goal.
Besides , it’s only when he scores, block heads like Longie will know he played well.
He is a fast paced striker and used to tikitaka passing, which Milan is not accustomed to.
Let him adapt to our slow ways.

  4. Funny to read the same ppl saying to give Chuk a chance that’s it’s still early and more time should be given but they are the same ppl who said CDK was trash after that same amount of time LOL. The irony. ALL players should be given time to adapt. However, there is a difference between Chuk and CDK and that is age and the leagues they played in. Chuk came from Spain and is 24. CDK from Belgium league and was 21 – huge difference. Pulisic had no issue adapting to Serie A and neither should Chuk. We spent 28M on this guy and it’s time he delivers consistently. No more excuses
