GdS: Milan player ratings for Frosinone win – quartet shines; Chukwueze flop

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan secured three vital points in their pursuit of consistency, beating Frosinone by three goals to one last night. Several players did well, including one of the goalscorers Luka Jovic, while a few others could have done better.

Jovic opened the scoring at the end of the first half with a composed finish, making the most of a failed clearance. Christian Pulisic followed it up with an even better goal, assisted by Mike Maignan, and Fikayo Tomori then scored the final goal for Milan.

As stated in today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see the photo below), the likes of Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Pulisic and Jovic were the best on the pitch with a rating of 7/10. Just like in our player ratings, the Serbian was named the MOTM by the newspaper.

Hernandez was brilliant at centre-back, showing great discipline, and Maignan also made a great stop in the first half. Well-deserved high ratings for the quartet, in other words, and Pioli will be hoping for more of that in the coming weeks.

Fikayo Tomori and Yunus Musah did better than average at 6.5/10. The Englishman probably would have got a 7 if it hadn’t been for a big mistake in the first half. Davide Calabria, Alessandro Florenzi, Tijjani Reijnders and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, meanwhile, all got a 6/10.

Samuel Chukwueze, as per the newspaper, was by far the worst on the pitch with a rating of 5/10. He failed to beat his man in the attacking phase, struggling to get the crosses in as well, and he also made a big mistake with a clearance towards the end.

  1. Firstly I don’t think Chukwueze has flopped. I think he’s moved to a new country and league and has shown signs of good stuff. He is nowhere consistent enough, he is a constant danger to the opposition and you can see he worries them, but his end product is now there yet.

Also Jovic was obsolete until the goal. Even the commentators commented on him almost not being on the pitch

This only goes to prove Maldini’s points. We needed a leap in quality. Maldini wanted Berardi and SMS. Berardi on the right would have been about as safe a bet as you could wish for. His numbers in Serie A are very good and he knows the league. So ask yourself, was it that much of a saving to sign Chukwueze for 25m rather than go in for Berardi at 40m? Or are we going to make a loss on Chukwueze and have to sign another option?

This is why many deemed the pro Maldini camp were saying.

    1. It’s about growth decree. Sadly we won’t see many domestic players in Milan due to growth decree. They save a lot on salary tax.

  2. Chukwueze is not a flop – he needs more time.
Jovic was regarded as a flop until last game. He scores, so now he “rediscovered” his form? LMAO!!! The media makes me laugh – they love slopping labels on.

These are humans, not plug’n’play PlayStation characters. Jovic needs more continuity and he will get better. Chukwueze too needs more time to get comfortable. Leao took forever to become the Leao we see today.

Jovic and Chukwueze both have already contributed more than CDK did entire last season 🙂

    1. Honestly Chukwueze gets my nerves sometimes. Sometimes he doesn’t seem to know what he wants to do, his ball conduction is sometimes awful, and his decision making is quite poor and he doesn’t even seem to be that fast. I don’t want to be too harsh, players do take sometimes one or 2 seasons to show quality, so far he is underwhelming but who knows, maybe he’ll improve.
As for Jovic, yes this was a goal against a weak team, but maybe this will break some sort of a mental barrier and now he might improve.

  3. Chukwueze must have been purchased strictly on stats, how does a player on this level play so one footed, so easy to defend !! TRADE HIM !!!!

  4. I don’t think he’s a flop, but this excuse of playing for a new team and changing countries falls flat when you look at RLC and Pulisic. They are ballin’.

    1. Heaven forbid Chukwueze may be more of a sentimental character than the other two and finds it harder to settle? We must remember they are human beings…not machines
