Longoni: Fonseca a ‘dead man walking’ as Milan have no reference to ‘cling to’ vs. Inter

The big derby clash between AC Milan and Inter is scheduled for tonight, with Paulo Fonseca hoping to save his job. However, as highlighted by Andrea Longoni, the manager appears to be ‘a dead man walking’ and might not make it even with a win.

There has indeed been a lot of turbulence in the Milan environment since the disappointing 1-3 defeat against Liverpool earlier this week. Many managers have been linked with the Rossoneri job and Fonseca is hanging on by a thread, with only one chance left to fix things.

As stated by Andrea Longoni in his latest editorial for MilanNews, his fate might have already been decided regardless of the result tonight. Even more worrying, however, is that the Rossoneri – and above all the fans – will have no one to cling to during the derby.

“Fonseca looks like a ‘dead man walking’. Also for this reason, with what spirit will the players enter the field tonight? The thing that scares those who have Milan in their hearts the most is the lack of references: today, who can a Rossoneri fan cling to?

“Not the coach. Not the team, which on too many occasions has shown it lacks heart and character. Not the club, which lacks real strong figures, where strong means with a high level of competence and experience. The Ibrahimovic factor, to date, has been decidedly negative for Milan,” he wrote.

Inter will be looking to make it seven consecutive wins in the derby, which would be a new record, and Milan must do everything to stop that from happening. Given how they have played recently, though, fans are not holding out hope.

  1. Blaming Fonseca solely for the current form is just short-sighted – how anyone expects him to single-handedly turn around our current talent and stability deficit with Inter is beyond me. I expect to get stuffed but only a small portion of blame can be placed upon him, at most.

  2. What do you mean? Check out Liverpool for example. The story was Liverpool needs to rebuild, they need to buy 3 top players to compete with City again. Brought in a great coach who actually knows what he is doing and studied the club and how are they doing now? Because Slot is a tactician that knows exactly what he wants from each player. Fonseca is not to blame because he is not on that level. He is 6 out of 10 at best, he won’t become Guardiola or Klopp, not today or in 20 years. Whoever brought him is to blame.

  3. You know the funny part is that the players know when coaches are not capable but they can’t speak
Musah actually spoke saying they are confused, obviously other players don’t respect his tactical mind that’s why he doesn’t have d grip on the dressing room.
Your tactical acumen and human personal management will give you the dressing room and I don’t think Fonseca has both and this is are serious short comings
