Longoni: Milan could make an additional 4-5 signings after Musah

AC Milan are working on several fronts on the mercato and after signing seven players, one would think they are getting close to the finish line. However, it could be the exact opposite, as a report claims.

Yunus Musah is just one step away from joining the Rossoneri and he’s expected to become the eighth signing of the summer. In short, it’s been a busy transfer window for Milan thus far but it might not end there.

According to Andrea Longoni in his latest editorial for MilanNews, an additional 4-5 players could arrive after Musah. He believes the positions could be the following: two full-backs, a centre-back, a No.9 and perhaps another midfielder.

The journalist mentioned both Nicolas Dominguez and Morten Hjulmand for the midfield role, but it remains to be seen if there will be enough money left for this. Perhaps the potential sale of Divock Origi to Saudi Arabia would help unlock the matter.

  1. It’s already concerning the amount of newcomers but if this is true then this has gone out of control. It’s another year zero for us.

    1. Right, too many new signings in last month of transfer window is not good. They won’t have enough preseason to adapt. Just look at Chelsea last year.

    2. Have you put your application to be Milans new couch yet?

      I’m wondering.

And we have our core of players still. Who else of the core did we lose? Unless you consider Rebic and Messias part of it?

      You’re a zero.

Pioli is the one making requests for players.

      1. He was talking about the problem of integrating too many newcomers, not the problem of losing too many cores.

Are you sure Pioli asking another 5 signings? Isn’t that what the media told you? Let me quote something:

“You believe media reports. Says it all.”
        ~ Giancarlo ~

        1. I never said anything about Milan signing another 4-5 players. That’s a media report. Probably 2-3 more and that’s it. Some of these are rotational players, like Calafiori.

          You aren’t very intelligent.

          1. The article claimed 4-5 more players could arrive.

@Ted said that is out of control if true.

You replied to @Ted by saying that Pioli is the one making request for players.

It means, @Ted was saying 4-5 more players is out of control but you defended it as you believe it is Pioli’s request.

You are unintelligent 🤡 if you can’t even understand the implication of your reply to @Ted.

          2. You made a mistake by not understanding properly what you replied to so you unintentionally defended the article’s claim of 4-5 players.

Before insulting others, you should look at the mirror.

        2. It’s ok @Yelnats24,it’s not worth discussing with him as he lives in his own little world. Not a month ago he deemed Musah not good enough for Milan and now he’s his biggest endorser. And if anyone should be our new coach it’s him, he claims Musah is our new DM so he must be smarter than Pioli also.

          1. So is the Juventino who does more attacking Milan then anything else. What are you even doing on this site drama queen? I said he could play as a DM. But that’s up to Pioli.

    3. Hi

I fully concur with those sentiments.

We need an evolution and not a revolution.

Without full knowledge of the fallout between Cardinale and Maldini and Massara,we can only be left to speculate at the motives for their dismissal.

I have never been impressed by Pioli’s football strategy and i still believe he is not the coach to take us back to our zenith.

The defeat in the champions league semi-final is testament to my views.

Milan lack identity in playing style which is very alarming, this is was evident even when we won the scudetto.

And i have consistently pointed this out in my previous comments about Milan. Our playing style leaves a lot to be desired.

We have some exceptional talent at some of positions but it is not cohesive unit.

The scudetto from 2 seasons ago was built on a very good defence but there was no identity,we collected enough draws and 1-nill wins.

But there was nothing thrilling about our march to the scudetto.

Contrast this with Napoli’s scudetto win, they were thrilling, exceptional, consistent and scored goals galore.

It goes with out saying that football transfers are not an exact science.

Eg Ngolo Kante was bought by leicester for a million,he won the Premier League with them and he was an outstanding presence that season. Then leicester sold him for 30 times the price,to chelsea and he again commanded them to a Premier league victory.

Now Kante’s are few and far between in the market but there is a litany of high priced players who have failed to deliver for various reasons.

Now if Maldini and Massara were dismissed because of failed transfers then RedBird capital is in the wrong business.

Milan has changed owners frequently in the past few years, so much instability is toxic.

Maldini’s dismissal was the very first incorrect step after a disappointing season and it speaks volume of Redbird Capital reputation.

Lately most players signed with us because of Maldini’s stature not only at Milan but the world over.

Dismissing Maldini will comeback to haunt RedBird Capital.

      Forza Milan!!!🤙

  2. 4 or 5. Now is question about experience how much those potential signings have ?

For now all our new players doesn’t have any experience in Serie A and that is little bit risky. But hope is they will manage fine with core players of the team.

      1. Dominguez poseses leadership spirit quite similar to Tonali. I think it would be a better replacement for Tonali instead of RLC

  3. I will be very suprised if pioli is able to integrate all these players to a team… it would be hard even for the best managers out there…

I was happy with 3-4 quality players, but this is a whole new team, whole new gameplay.. idk, i hope im wrong

    1. Except we’re not replacing all the core players. If we sign a striker, they will rotate with Giroud. If we sign a leftback, second string to replace Ballo-Toure. The issue with midfield is our starter Bennacer is out for months and we sold Tonali.

  4. Finally someone thinks the same thing as me while most fans are excited that we are signing a bunch of players they are forgetting that Pioli struggles to implement new signins into the starting 11 even to the rotation of subs! One more thing that is concerning is Pioli wanting to change for a 4-3-3 i can see us starting the new season with that formation but as soon has we struggle for 2 or 3 games in that formation Pioli is going to do 1 of 2 things keep on playing the 4-3-3 because he does not have the right players for the 4-2-3-1 or he changes back to the 4-2-3-1 because he does not know or trains others formations! My hope is that he gets sacked at the end of the season regardelless of wich position we end!

    1. Pioli can win Champions League but the geniuses at SempreMilan will always try to sh*t on him like he’s some sort of novice coach that cant handle it

Try learning to give credit where its due, it wasnt only Maldini that brought success to Milan, infact he did jack all about tactics and how we developed players, Pioli had a large hand in it too

      1. Boulden, the reason is simple. Both Maldini and Pioli had merits. But Maldini is out and all the merits were given to Pioli. This is unfair

  5. Its always hilarious to see the when the people here cant sh*t on Redbird because they are actually investing, they shift their focus onto the old tired argument of Pioli again

Do you really need something to complain about everyday?

    1. It was hillarious seeing Chelsea fans trashing Boehly after the amount of money he spent for transfer market. Is that what you mean?

So far Redbird has done well on transfer market. But it might cross the line if there are 5 more new signings, especially at last month of transfer window. To few signings is not good but to many signings is also not good.

  6. if they sell deadwood like origi florenzi kjaer ballo toure and bring ST RB LB CB that can stay fit so pioli have them at any time unlike florenzi and kjaer that would be better for milan but at the same time at least the allegerly positions which are LB RB CB CM ST buy 4 out of 5 players from serie a with smart deals like calafiori singo scalvini or diego coppola hjulmand or dominguez and if they all like moncada furlani pioli go ahead buy alejo veliz all these players arent gonna cost too much to be consinder first team players and they prolly be fit at any time pioli wants them (also i dont mean kjaer florenzi arent good but they play less and less games because they get injured for longer and longer period making the team with less depth and difficult to rotate players)

  7. I think people are way too fired up about this. Signing a lot of players is not always bad. It was bad for Chelsea because they just signed every new hyped player they could, without ANY thought going into the coach, tactics or philosophy. Milan are doing the opposite here. Coach Pioli is involved and is making sure that new signings fit into the system and his style of play. Furthermore, signing 7-10 new players doesn’t mean it’s a completely new team. We have the core of last season still intact in the form of Magnian, Tomori, Theo, Thiaw, Bennacer, Leao & Giroud. This means that our new signings will have an easier time to adapt and there won’t be pressure on all of them to perform straight away. The few who needs to be ready immediately are Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek & Chukwueze and they are experienced enough to settle in quickly. If we buy Dominguez then he will also settle in because he knows Serie A. The rest of the signings can develop in their own pace because they won’t be desperately needed all the time. Deputy to Theo on left back, an alternative and potential upgrade for Calabria at right back and then a young strikers to alternate with Giroud. That is not mindless Chelsea spending! These are smart signings that Milan actually need

    1. One of the reason is lack of preseason, many players left Chelsea after their preseason tour and many arrived after their preseason tour. It give Tuchel not enough chance to integrate the team.

  8. Let’s all hope its a maximum of two more players to cover left back and right back after the signing of Musa. Milan should now endeavour to keep both Colombo and Romero, and possibly promote Simic to the first team. Then we should be okay. As I mentioned in another post Pioli’s record on team management as per last season isn’t good. Therefore, let’s hope just as we are all pleasantly surprised by the transfers so far, Pioli is also able to deliver with the many options and players he could mould into super stars to deliver throphies next season and future seasons.

    1. I am not against buying many players provided we buy and sell them after some time for a King’s ransom.
Provided the core of the team is retained, we can buy and seen. Imagine the wonders we are doing with the sale of Tonali.

      1. That’s the balance, keeping the core of the team. Which we seem to have at the moment, however if we buy anymore players other than LB and RB, is it not possible that we will have to sell from our core players? I mean while its debatable that many of us here would not consider Krunic to be part of the core and I would agree Florenzi is to old to be part of the core. Yet we have seen the difference in revenue in selling Tonali in comparison to Rebic and the likes we are trying to offload. Therefore, if we are to balance the books we will have to sell core players and that’s the likes of Tomori, Thiaw, Theo, Mike, Leao and a few others..

        1. We’re probably signing one more midfielder (Dominguez), and signing another striker to rotate with Giroud. And frankly, we now have two non-EU options, so I do see us going for Alejo Veliz.

As far as leftback, Calafiori from Basel. Second choice. Right back? Who knows but they are probably looking because surprise surprise Calabria got injured again.

Would this force us to sell? No.

Players like Calafiori and Veliz likely wouldn’t get very high wages. If we off load Origi (4 million euros a season right?), Rebic and Messias, we more than balanced the books.

          1. I looked it up. Origi is exactly why you don’t sign just any free transfer you can find. His salary is 4.5 million a season. Oh hell.

Rebic makes 3.5 million a season. Messias another 1.8 million.

You can bet a dollar we wouldn’t be paying Dominguez, Calafiori and Veliz nearly 10 million a season combined.

  9. Yunus already here we go by fabrizio romano. After him , we only need player to replace whoever leave example :ballo leave then we buy LB , origi leave then we buy new striker,. We dont need buy dominques anymore. Comparing this season signing with yong hong li or boehly in chelsea are bad comparison . Both yong hong li & boehly buy player wildly without thinking that player suit or not with coach tactic while furlani & moncada buy player with pioli aproval . Pioli even can reject player like he reject singo that moncada like to sign . One more thing we dont change many starter player from last season like maignan, tomori, theo, calabria, kalulu( maybe thiaw),leao, giroud, krunic . We only change junior to samuel chukwu, tonali to reijnders, bennacer ( injured) to yunus or rlc thats if we play 433 . If we play 4231 then brahim to pulisic . This will give time for new player adaptation also strengthen squad depth

  10. This is a view of a journalist. We will probably get two or three more. A striker, a defender and Dominguez.

I personally don’t see the issue here. This is Pioli having more control over what he wants.

    1. Second, if you’re comparing this to what happened at Chelsea, which lost many of their core (and we haven’t), you have your blinders on. If you’re that worried about a striker that will rotate with Giroud and Theo’s deputy, a second string LB… I don’t know what to tell you. We kept Giroud and we kept Theo.

Any further players that come now are likely not to be starters but rotational players.

      1. And finally, two examples. Alejo Veliz, will be our second choice striker if we sign him. And Riccardo Calafiori, a second string left back because of Ballo-Toure is leaving.

Now some also think we need a right back and one might come too. I haven’t really seen anyone linked to us here, but Calabria got injured again!

        1. Chelsea didn’t lost their core players last summer, they only started to sell the cores in the winter. By that time, they were already in disarray. They have bloated squad because too many late arrivals in the summer and they have problem integrating them.

          1. Oh shut your damn mouth already. You’re sounding like a bigger moron every post. Yet another clown coming out of the woodwork to make stupid idiotic remarks.

        2. You don’t even know who you’re replying to anymore. You’re very confused. Go to bed, Yelnats. You have to be like 80.

  11. For those of you concerned with the number of new players coming in: DEPTH IS GOOD! Remember last season?! Razor thin bench? These guys aren’t all going to start together. We need a deep bench.

Milan aren’t sitting on their @$$es, like they did last winter and the summer before. Remember that? Because many of you complained about the complacency in the mercato then too.

    FORZA MILAN ⚫️🔴

    1. And what people don’t get that unlike 2017, we still have our core and that core is a great set of players that have a heart for this team. We aren’t signing just because. There is a reason.

  12. Messias, Rebic and Origi makes nearly 10 million euros a season combined. 1.8 million, 3.5 million and 4.5 million respectively. So just a hair under 10 million.

We let those three go, you can bet if we sign Dominguez, Viejo and Calafiori that they would probably make 20-40% less than that.

There is your balance if anyone is concerned.

  13. Think the truth is in the middle a bit here, yeah we should be happy/thankful to new management about all these new signings, yes it won’t be magic from the get go, and it is kinda worrying we don’t have a proper dm. Think a good solution would be to play a 4231. Maignan Calabria tomori thiaw Theo Rlc Rjeinders Chuky pulisic leao Giroud Backups sportiello salad Kjaer kalulu florenzi Musah adli Romero cdk okafor okafor/columbo Bennacer as starter when he’s healthy, don’t forget how good he is. And florenzi at back up left back I mean cmon how important is a backup to Theo anyway if he’s not injured

  14. I believe what everyone does not seem to understand about this Redbird whole situation and the new Management helmed by the Furlani is that they’re building for the future and trying to build a competent and a competitive team that can win trophy at the same time.

All the players this new Management are focusing on are players with huge potentials and with high capacity to compete with the very best in their early 20s and this should tell you something that Maldini and Massara had always been off the template the owners were trying to implement since the takeover which means that the project had just began i.e the self financing project.

All the the players that the Management are purchasing recently have at least five year to give the team and if they deem any of them sacrificial to finance the team later in the future then an adequate cover must have been available unlike in the case of Sandro Tonali sale where the fans were perplexed with the sale but later showed some hindsight understanding.

So my guess is that the aforementioned Management wants to rebuild the team and make every area of the team strong with enough firepower cover that can challenge the first eleven players which has always been my ideal team,so am very curious to know more as the project unfolds.

I believe this Management stole my ideas and vision for AC Milan because if I were to be the owner I may perhaps not necessarily sanction the sale of Sandro Tonali but would hand Furlani a £150m to beef up the then afterwards start an aggressive development of the youth teams by poaching the best teenage talents around the globe who would takeover from the first team.

I guess this what Furlani and Mocanda are driving at so AC Milan fans around the globe take a chill pill.

    Thanks.

  15. In my point of view Milan is back step by step and nothing stopping this process, Developing is continuing. Ac Milan need a two years to reach top levels and create competitive environments in Milan to make high level of quality not quantity. If Milan keep developing processes in future success is imminent.
