CorSera: The derby has a French stamp – Maignan and Giroud step up to KO Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan managed to record a huge derby win last night, and it was thanks to the influence of Mike Maignan and Olivier Giroud who emerged as the two protagonists.

This morning’s edition of il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) praises Maignan’s performance who let a goal in that was virtually unstoppable but then kept plenty out that seemed to be the same. He kept his team afloat by flying from post to post and he was the reason that the Rossoneri only had a one-goal deficit heading into the second half.

The paper notes that Maignan’s big stops would have been of no use if Giroud had not suddenly set out to win the derby on his own. The striker emerged from Ibrahimovic’s shadow – given his history with his fixture – and won the match with two goals befitting of an experienced centre-forward.

Mike’s big hands were what kept Milan within touching distance, then the movement and the awareness of Giroud ensured the city is Rossonero.
