The speculation surrounding Mike Maignan and his future is not quietening. In fact, in the next few months, his AC Milan future will only become more highlighted.
With the January mercato almost open, Milan will become even more aware of their situation. Time is running out for them to have security – if they have any left anyway – and other clubs will be preparing to pounce.

So, the next 30 days could be crucial. Ultimately, the Rossoneri need to make some advancements and if they don’t, things will only become more nerve-racking.
Maignan’s future decided?
For one journalist, though, it seems that there may be no point in worrying, with a decision already made. Speaking to MilanNews, Laurent Paganelli looked at his future and what he believes will happen.
Laurent, you are very close to Maignan: what will Mike do at the end of the season?
“I think he won’t stay at Milan and will go to the Premier League. The problem with footballers these days is that they want to explore all the leagues. Mike has reached a crossroads: he has this desire to leave. That’s what I think, and maybe it’s not true. But…”

“Knowing him, I think he’ll go away.”
In recent years, there’s been a veritable epidemic called the Premier League. Why do all the players who don’t play there, including young players in Ligue 1, insist on moving to the top English league at all costs?
“We all think England is England, the ‘mother of football’ and a place where you’re bound to have played at some point in your career. It’s incredible because, in my opinion, the Premier League isn’t where the best football is played. England is especially difficult for a goalkeeper…”
Looking back, famous goalkeepers like Barthez, Mandanda, Taibi, and Onana all failed there…
“But that’s how it is now, and the players are attracted by the Premier League. They have this obsession with wanting to play there at least once in their career. Then they get paid by the week there… that’s convenient for them.
“In my opinion, Mike is attracted by the championship itself…”
In fact, in June, he had asked to be transferred to go to Chelsea.
“It’s true, and perhaps one day he’ll regret leaving Milan. You can say what you want, but Italy is still Italy. I grew up with Serie A and have always loved football, and yours is special. Yours is something great, and Italian coaches are formidable.
“When it comes to football, true quality comes from Italy. It’s the most complete league there is.”
Hopefully, what the former French footballer says will not become true, but with minimal positive updates, it seems that it may be the case. Ultimately, no one will know until Maignan makes his decision.

I mean they literally had a contract agreed. Whether or not Mike would have stayed the whole time or traded the next year, it at least guaranteed a transfer fee. So that it on the management

Regardless of current financials, history is still history and only 2 teams from the epl even come close to Milan and that is Liverpool and Utd the rest are a bunch of runts. Going to Chelsea would be a daft move in my view and I doubt Liverpool really is an option and would he actually want to join Utd.
Either way I wont blame him for leaving Milan unless he actually joins an Italian opposition which I absolutely would detest him for but doubt that really is in the cards either. If he wont renew then I would start giving Torriani some match minutes though against lesser teams so he could become his successor.
They need to make him a final offer now and if he doesn’t sign until January they need to get a new goalkeeper for next season. If he wants to leave farewell, but joining Chelsea…Sounds like a joke, I mean if you want money you can go to Saudi Arabia and chill, not play Europa League with Chelsea. I’d understand if he was joining Liverpool, Arsenal or City, to compete for titles.
Chelsea is in the champions league and doing pretty good there while they are in the title race in the EPL currently sitting 3rd. What Europa league are you talking about?
Also, over the last 20 years Chelsea is one of the most successful clubs in Europe. I think they have won every trophy possible including 2 UCLs.
Just being in the league is a big deal these days. Just like it was being in Serie A in the 90s. Big players would go to clubs like Fiorentina, Parma, Lazio and Roma. Not very different from going to the likes Newcastle, Aston Villa or Tottenham now. From there they hope to make another move to the likes of City, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc. Football hopscotch. Mike is a bit older, so it’s probably not going to work out like that for him, but he’ll be “there”.
I don’t see any of Inter’s stars flocking to the premier league.

Andre Onana, at Inter for just one season, 2022-2023, the year of their last scudetto, also winning the Supercoppa and Coppa Italia, and making it to the finals of Champions League.
He was so impressive Man United bought him the following season for £43.8 million, whereupon he flopped with numerous constant howlers that made him a constant youtube laughingstock and social media meme.
Having given him a five year contract, ManU finally gave up on him this season and punted him out on loan to Trabzonspor

Could just be a function of where their players are in their contracts. Their prior owners also defaulted on their financing and Inter is 100s of millions in debt, in that quest to hold on to their players. I guess we could have gone down that road too and held on to the likes of Tonali, Reijnders, etc. But the more important point is that Inter can’t and doesn’t go toe to toe with the PL. And even if they did, you’re talking about one club in 20. Bottom line is that newly promoted PL clubs have more spending power than the top Serie A club. It’s not even arguable. Ex. Burnley spent €128.65m last summer, Leeds spent €113.70m and Sunderland spent €187.90m. All without CL football. Meanwhile, Inter spent €93.10m. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Regardless, a good SD should never let a player reach the last year of his contract. In other clubs you sign the another contract, find another club who are willing to but out your contract, or go to the stands.
But as a fan, I will wait until the summer to see if I miss him. So far he’s having a great season, but I still remember previous seasons
It’s easy to blame Furlani, but let’s admit – Mike was nothing near this level last year. I personally didn’t expect him to get back to this shape again.
So the real work is to convince him that he’s going to be a real hero here, instead of possibility to be a failure in England.
I have to blame Fulani because he renegade on the decision reached with Maignan. And if football is business, which I believe it is, extending the goal keeper’s contract would have given Milan more bargaining powers to get a lot of money from his sales. What Milan did was a bad business.
