CM: Maignan a €13m masterstroke by Maldini and Massara – 23 points have his stamp

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan welcomed Mike Maignan to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer and he continues to show himself to be a decisive man in the Scudetto push.

Calciomercato.com recall how Maignan produced an absolutely vital intervention in the second half of the 1-0 win over Fiorentina yesterday when he read Arthur Cabral’s movement at the near post and made sure he was in the right place to stop him opening the scoring.

The Rossoneri went from potentially being a point behind Inter to remaining in front, and that was because Leao went up the other end and scored the winning goal three minutes later.

Maignan has become a fan favourite and it didn’t take him long to demonstrate his qualities. According to a study drawn up at the end of March there were 20 points that could be directly attributed to his saves such as the ones against Sampdoria and Genoa away from home, plus those in the derby and then the assist to Leao in the home game against Samp.

Now that has reached 23 points thanks to his most recent heroics as per the report. The Frenchman was only bought for €13m but he is showing he has the reflexed to match most top keepers, the command of a leader and the ability to play the ball like a playmaker.

  1. The cost of maignan ( total cost transfer fee + salary 5 years contract) are far more cheaper than renew Donnarumma 5 years contract. It is nice decision from management to reduce the cost but still get quality goal keeper

  2. Maignan is a super keeper for that price. It gives me the impression that Ligue 1 is dotted with cheap quality keepers for Maignan and Mendy to have been a graduate.

  3. Dollarumma blessed us with a better keeper.

We put up with his immaturity, and he wanted to blackmail us, but indirectly rewarded us with Super Mike.
