Maignan pleased to have Dida as goalkeeping coach: “He was a great goalkeeper”

Gigio Donnarumma’s departure from Milan might have been untimely, but ex-Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan holds enough credentials to play a starring role in the Rossoneri’s run for the Scudetto in 2021/22.

The new Rossoneri goalkeeper is an exciting prospect, who is currently training under legendary Brazilian shot-stopper Dida. Dida is currently training the first team after handling Milan’s youth goalkeeping department until August 2020.

He was promoted post-August as the goalkeeping coach of the senior squad for the 2020/21 season. Regarding the opportunity to train under the former Rossoneri, Maignan spoke highly of him after his first training session.

Speaking at his presentation press conference (via MilanNews), he said: “The first impact is positive. Dida was a great goalkeeper, he will be able to give me a great hand to grow”.

Maignan played a key role in establishing Lille’s dominance in Ligue 1 last season as the club dethroned Paris Saint-Germain on the way to title glory. Donnarumma’s absence will only be felt by the Rossoneri if Maignan doesn’t live up to the expectations set upon him.
