Maignan smiles as data shows clear defensive improvement for Milan this season

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are still in the race for the Scudetto following what was a crucial 2-1 win at Lazio on Sunday evening. Although they conceded, the defence deserves praise for recent displays in the league.

If we take a look at last season, Milan were in 4th place after 34 games played and had a total of 69 points. As we know, the Rossoneri are currently in first and have managed to collect a total of 74 points, which is an improvement of five points.

As said, the defence should be praised for the recent performances as we also can see a clear difference in goals conceded. After conceding just one goal in March and April in the league, they are at 30 conceded in total. Last season, they were at 41.

In other words, it’s a substantial improvement from last season and no one can argue that letting Gigio Donnarumma leave to sign Mike Maignan was the wrong move. Having said that, Milan have scored two goals less this season.
