Maldini reveals emotions after Lazio win and discusses Scudetto pursuit: “I am proud” – video

AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has given an interview stating how proud he is of the fight that the squad are displaying.

Last night was a big test of character for Milan, especially when Ciro Immobile’s close range finish inside five minutes was enough to send the hosts into the break a goal up. The Rossoneri came roaring back as Olivier Giroud levelled not long after the interval and then Zlatan Ibrahimovic set up Sandro Tonali to win it in the second minute of added time.

Maldini spoke to MilanTV in the aftermath of the Rossoneri’s victory over Lazio, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I would like to express a very simple concept that I feel as a Milanista. I am proud of the team, of the staff and what the fans are giving us. It is a real emotion, it is the essence of our work, what makes us feel good and who makes us live with an emotionality, sometimes unstable, but which causes very pleasant sensations of this kind,” he said.

“The target is to do the best possible, we have to aim very high. At the beginning of the year some didn’t put us this high, but we have to use this as a stimulus. The numbers speak for themselves. To be here and keep this level we must maintain this spirit of sacrifice.

“If we are here it is because we have always believed in it. Maybe even when we didn’t communicate it we always thought about it. We cannot make it seem like a trivial target – in the last 20 years Milan have won two Scudetti, it would be an incredible result. When you get the chance you have to try it all the way. Then if things don’t go well, you know you’ve done your best.”
