Tuttosport: Maldini’s faith in Leao being repaid – how the winger has developed

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were determined to show patience with young winger Rafael Leao and now it seems that it is being rewarded, a report claims.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) points out how Leao is now a fundamental pillar of Stefano Pioli’s team. Time and patience were needed with the young Portuguese, but in the first part of the season he has shown that he seems to have taken a step up in his game.

His excellent work in the last few weeks and months earned him a senior national team call-up, something which will be a further confidence booster for Leao. After the inconsistent performances we saw from Leao in his first two years in Italy, there were many doubts about his real abilities and whether he would reach his potential.

There was also talk of a possible sale, but directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara decided to resist all advances, convinced that Leao would eventually take a leap. With four goals and one assist already this season – and a visibly better understanding of Pioli’s game – the 22-year-old is firmly on the right path.
