Goal.com: Manchester City plotting January move for Leao

By Euan Burns -

Premier League side Manchester City are planning a shock January move for AC Milan forward Rafael Leao who is in contract talks with the Rossoneri, a report claims.

As has been reported by Goal.com, City boss Pep Guardiola wants some more attacking firepower to be added to his squad in the January transfer window and Leao is one of the names on the list of potential signings.

It has always been assumed that any departure from Milan by Leao would take place in the summer of 2023, but City want to get the deal done in January instead.

This would require a very hefty transfer fee and Milan will not want the task of replacing Leao mid-season, but City are very wealthy club and could offer the sort of figures that will get Milan thinking.

Leao is discussing a new deal with Milan but City would be able to offer him significantly better terms.

    1. How many years did Neymar have left in his contract when PSG paid his release clause? FOUR years. Leao isn’t worth 150m and certainly not with 1.5 years remaining in his contract. Nobody is going to pay that, so get off it. If we don’t sell now for 80-100m, we’re going lose him for only 50m in the summer if he doesn’t renew. Then he might even decide to just see out his contract, in which case we’re fvcked.

  1. Well, I stick to my usual opinion regarding this affair: I guess that the board really should do everything possible to keep him at Milan, but in fact, if there is no contract renewal until the next summer mercato, then it will be imperative to negotiate him for the largest feasible sum .
