Telegraph: Man City make Milan star ‘serious target’ but record offer needed – the situation

Manchester City have made AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders a target ahead of the summer window, according to a report.

Reijnders has been one of the stand-out performers since his arrival at Milan in the 2023 summer mercato, having added goals to his 15 this season, to be precise. He recently committed his long-term future to the club with a renewal until 2030.

While the Dutchman has publicly expressed his happiness about being a Milan player and a desire to stay for years to come, this hasn’t stopped rumours about interest from other top European clubs.

Manchester City in for Reijnders

According to The Telegraph, Reijnders is ‘a serious summer target as they plan the rebuilding of Pep Guardiola’s squad’. Milan are ‘braced for an offer for Reijnders’ when the transfer window opens, but they would likely demand higher than the club record departure of Kaka to Real Madrid for €67m.

Kevin De Bruyne is leaving and Rodri has had a serious injury this season, so City are looking for someone who can play as a box-to-box midfielder and be creative. Added to this is the fact that Ilkay Gundogan will turn 35 next season and Nico González has just arrived.

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White is another name that they are looking at but ‘Reijnders is firmly in the same category’ and signing more than one midfielder is a possibility for the Manchester club.

Florian Wirtz meanwhile is seen more of an attacking midfielder, and there are doubts about whether they can get the Bayer Leverkusen ace, because Bayern Munich are also in for the 22-year-old. So, Reijnders could be the one they send a big bid for.

  1. Yeah, you saw what having a long term deal, willingness to stay at Milan at a relatively low salary to his market value did to keep Tonali here…nothing.

They flipped him and yet didn’t solidify our midfield in three years. We had one of the best in the world. At one of the lowest wage and transfer cost. Still would have been with extension. Hundreds of Milions spent and the team still hasn’t performed better consistently yet.

  2. As a Milan supporter I will say Reijnders is not for Sale. But for 100 MILLION it will be difficult to Say NO. For the Player he deserves to be in the Champions 🏆 League. I would try to bring Tonali back and maybe who knows De Bruyne. Keith 🇲🇹

    1. Heh, selling Tijj for 100M€ and bringing Tonali back wouldn’t be THAT awful. But it will never happen though.

      1. … because
        a) Furlani will sell him for 60M€ and not 100M€
        b) our management will never pay over 40M€ for anyone.

  3. “We don’t sell out of necessity, we sell out of opportunism. If we remain disciplined, there will always be counterparties on the market who will allow extraordinary returns for the players.”

    1. Everything isn’t about money especially for a club with a pedigree like Milan.

      Like seriously, selling Tiji???

They should rather focus on strong management who knows how to reinvest and build a solid team.

We’ve been crying for two-three years since the sell of Kessi and Tonali.

Unless we won’t complain come next season so long as we stay in top 10 positions lile this current season, the management should be solid first before doing business in the macerto.

  4. It’s that time reijnders to leave because he is not appreciated here i hope he will get better place

  5. As I recall, the funds from Tonali’s transfer played a significant role in financing several key signings—namely Tijjani Reijnders, Christian Pulisic, and Samuel Chukwueze. And aside from Chukwueze, who’s still finding his rhythm, and maybe Yunus Musah, most of the incoming players have proven to be excellent additions. Reijnders, in particular, has been a consistent performer and a vital presence in midfield.

Let’s also be realistic—Tonali’s departure wasn’t an anomaly. In modern football, selling players for profit is part of sustainable club management. Milan has done it before and will likely do it again. As the saying goes, “soldier go, soldier come.” No player is indispensable.

The key is how the club reinvests those funds—and in this case, Milan’s management did a solid job strengthening multiple areas of the squad. Fans should expect moves like the Tonali sale from time to time—it’s just part of the game.

    1. “Financing several key signinings”

That took us where? Back into banter era? Chukwueze and Musah finding rhythm after two years? So when do we start calling them a bust? After 5 seasons? People here were slaying management for buying CdK after his first season.

“has been a consistent performer and a vital presence in midfield.”

A consistent performer, yes. A vital presence in midfield, no. He’s been everything else but a midfielder. He’s non existent in his defensive play and is very limited in his vision and passing.

“In modern football, selling players for profit is part of sustainable club management.”

You know what else is sustainable club management? Winning. Inter were said to be on the verge of bankrupcy (something Gerry likes to throw around without any base) but will book record revenues and finish this season on a profit while keeping their core players. Not only keeping but they also extended with them and offered them 9 and 8 millions per year (namely Lautaro and Barella). We on the other hand, as most financially healthy club in the league and fastest growing brand value globally, cannot offer 6 millions to our core players.

“The key is how the club reinvests those funds—and in this case, Milan’s management did a solid job strengthening multiple areas of the squad”

Fact is, funds have been reinvested as poor as it gets. 250 millions later and we’re struggling in 8th place. Still missing LB deputy, still missing defensive midfielder and we’re in for another revolution. Why? Because this team was poorly constructed in the first place.

Until today, this ownership with this management is an epic failure and will go down in the history of this club as such.

  6. As stated before if just compare Sandro sale to purchase of CP and Tiji that’s 125M valuation from 70M sale. Could call Morata royal chuck Musah free signings. RLC and okafor were valuable last season. profile didn’t fit for Fonseca and injured most of this season. Also Sandro was out immediately for a year dt gambling.he’s still gambling now just not on Futbol but could face trouble again. Likely just a fine but still. Seems to be a guy that is definitely hanging his toes over the line and wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a ban again in the future.

Great player seems like he love Milan but can’t help if banned.
