Official: Maresca will officiate Milan-Inter – the precedents for both teams

By Oliver Fisher -

The AIA have official appointed Fabio Maresca as referee for the Supercoppa Italiana that will be played between AC Milan and Inter in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday night.

To assist the Neapolitan there will be Alassio and Baccini as the linesmen, Chiffi as the fourth official while in the VAR room it will be Di Paolo and Abisso.

As our colleagues at SempreMilan.it recall, Maresca has officiated  12 Milan games before, with six being Rossoneri victories, four draws and two defeats including a derby lost 4-2 by the Rossoneri against the Nerazzurri.

Meanwhile, Inter have had 11 matches directed by Maresca with two wins for them two draws and two defeats. However, there is no shortage of unpleasant episodes involving Maresca and Milan in the past.

12 April 2021: Parma 1-3 Milan – Ibrahimovic sent off for protesting.

9 January 2021: Milan 2-0 Torino – Penalty awarded to the away (later overturned by the VAR) and booking for non-existent simulation by Leao.

3 February 2019: Roma 1-1 Milan – Penalty not given to Suso, Pellegrini not sent off for second yellow card.
