Massara discusses Ibrahimovic and Todibo; believes a defender will ‘compete the squad’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan sporting director Ricky Massara has put his faith in Zlatan Ibrahimovic to help transform the fate of the Rossoneri’s season.

After securing his return to the Rossoneri on December 27 and having been officially presented last week, there was speculation he could even start the game on Monday, but Krzysztof Piatek ended up getting the nod.

Nonetheless, he was given a fantastic reception by the 60,000 strong Milan crowd upon taking the field for pre-match warm up.

Massara spoke to Sky Italia before the game about the Swede and other market subjects, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“We are truly happy to embrace a champion like Ibra again. He will give us a big helping hand to get back on track,” he said.

“Ibrahimovic immediately put himself at the disposal of the team and wants to help out. He has been with us in training for two days but hasn’t played for two months, though we’re happy he is fit for the bench.”

The former Roma man was asked about his visit to Barcelona, during which talks were reportedly held with Jean-Clair Todibo, something Massara essentially confirmed.

The latest from Sky Italia is that Milan have set a deadline of 48 hours for an agreement to be reached or they will move on to other targets.

“It wasn’t a raid, we are evaluating if there is the opportunity to further reinforce the squad. Along with Todibo, there are other profiles we are studying,” Massara continued.

“He is an interesting player, we’ll verify if the conditions are right for Milan, otherwise it won’t be a problem to look elsewhere.

“The transfer market is always dynamic in January with situations evolving continually. Now we believe a defender is needed to complete the squad, but we’ve got time until January 31.”
