Mayors of SudMilano all want new Milan stadium in San Donato but ask for assurances

Three mayors in the region of south Milan have voiced their approval regarding the idea AC Milan could build a new stadium in the San Donato area.

Milan are continuing to push ahead with their new stadium project. San Donato seems to be the chosen area, with plans being formalised for a ‘red and black citadel’ to open by 2028 or 2029 at the latest.

As reported by Il Cittadino (via MilanNews), the mayors of San Giuliano, Peschiera and Melegnano are convinced that the construction of a new stadium in the area is a good idea but the regeneration of the southern part of the city.

Now, they need details regarding the infrastructure, solutions for traffic and strengthening of the presence of the police forces involved in the Sudmilano area in the event that Milan officially confirm their desire to build a 70,000-seater stadium there.

The mayor of San Giuliano, Marco Segala, declared the following: “Starting from the assumption that I am in favor of the stadium, this is certainly an issue that requires the involvement of us mayors of Sudmilano.

“For example, as far as safety is concerned, I think that a such a vast area would require the establishment of a state police station.

“We as a municipality would be willing to focus on the redevelopment of a disused building to host such a project which would benefit an increase in territorial control since the carabinieri are already engaged in ordinary activity.

“Furthermore, I would ask for a green belt from San Zenone to the San Francesco/San Donato area as an environmental mitigation intervention.”

The deputy mayor of Peschiera Borromeo, Stefania Accosa: “I am absolutely not against the stadium which I see as an important opportunity for the Sudmilano, but it is necessary to mitigate the inconveniences that a project of this relief could lead to the surrounding municipalities.

“Starting from the traffic, with solutions for vehicles coming from the Paullese area, the latter road already suffering from a heavy load of vehicles, for which we have been asking for the desemaphorisation.

“In addition, it would be necessary to strengthen the forces of order in terms of implementing the carabinieri and the local police. There are a number of other important aspects that will have to be evaluated with the utmost attention.”

Finally, the mayor of Melegnano, Vito Bellomo: “I am in favour of the stadium, but infrastructure is absolutely needed as the Binasca supports unprecedented traffic and the Melegnano ring road is now collapsing.

“Therefore it is essential that the S12 becomes a subway surface area from Piacenza to Milan and that the External West Ring Road (Toem) be built to connect the A1 to the A7.

“Finally, as part of a strengthening of the forces of order which should be envisaged if the stadium were built, Melegnano would require a command of the traffic police.”

  3. I think those are iissues that you need to solve no? Milan is bringing a new venue that will attract people and all the good and bad stuff that comes with it.

Go and get your job done, that’s why you have been elected. And say it like Vito Bellomo, Yes I am in favor, and not I am not opposed or it is not that I am not in favor. That doesn’t really show excitment.

Now is the time for you to make history, and difference for those areas of the City. It’s not every day that an opportunity like this knocks on your doors.
