Mediaset: Details emerge on transfer fee as Milan are keen on Spurs defender

Japhet Tanganga has ended up at the top of AC Milan’s wish list this summer as the Rossoneri are looking for a centre-back to replace Alessio Romagnoli. In fact, negotiations are already underway with Tottenham.

Milan’s former captain Romagnoli decided to leave the club at the end of his contract in June and the Rossoneri are yet to replace him. Sven Botman seemed destined to be the one but he ended up joining Newcastle instead.

A few weeks since, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have identified the new primary target for Milan, by the looks of it. According to Mediaset (via SempreMilan.it), Milan will have a meeting with Tanganga’s agents in the coming days and also with Tottenham.

Maldini and Massara would like to sign the player on loan with an option to buy, with it being a paid loan at €2m and a €16m option. It’s an operation similar to the one that brought Fikayo Tomori to the club from Chelsea, in other words.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham will agree to this, but it’s the first report that we have seen on the potential transfer fee.

  1. Fingers crossed for a deal like this; after so long out (and even longer not playing as a CB) it’s a good idea to structure the deal with a loan-first approach

  2. No faith in Gabbia, kind of sad we don’t even give him a fair run. It’s not even as a starter just a backup and we won’t trust him with that?.. strange.

    1. its more starnge that you and others cant see that gabbia who will turn 23 in october needs playing consistent games compared to warming a bench seat if he are to develope further as a player. Idealy it would be nice to keep him as a backup but he would most likely not play a lot so loaning him to a club where he is pretty much a guaranteed starter would benefit all parts involved.

      1. Gabbia hasn’t developed AT ALL during the last 2 seasons. His confidence level is close to zero (just look at how many times he clears the ball out even without any pressure from the opponents). He makes terrible mistakes and doesn’t look like someone who could be trusted if Kjaer/Tomori/Kalulu would get injured.

Better loan him out ASAP. But I honestly doubt he could improve enough to ever be a starter in Milan.

        1. Well i disagree in reagard of his perfomances as he the majority of times fielded has performed either good or decent and rarely horrible.
He does need a loan though as i already said previously as it at least wouldnt make much sense keeping him as a backup for an entire season if he can get consistent minutes elsewhere in serie a.

  3. I hope he will be a big suprise like Tomori. Gabbia is garbage and Kjaer is getting old, we beed a decent CB.
If the news is true I will be happy with this deal.

    1. gabbia isnt garbage, he has almost always showcased either good or decent perfomances when fielded but he does nevertheless need to be loaned out to get consistent minutes,
I doubt kjær will accept playing either 3rd or 4rth fiddle amongst our cbs so i actually expects him coming back as strong as before and certainly put a great pressure of the current starters to keep up their work or he will step in. The player do have two years left on his contract but i deffently would bid Tanganga welcome if he were to join us.

      1. Gabbia has been poor more than good. Makes too many mistakes and has no confidence at all. Even in the last match (against Köln) the consolation goal came because Gabbia made a poor, poor clearance in a non-pressured situation. He basically gifted the corner kick and Köln scored after that.

        1. I disagree and i have seen pretty much every game since he was promoted to the first team. Id argue that he has done majorily good or decent and on a few occasions horrible. His issue is that he is further away from a starters position than previously so it would make sense loaning him out and see if he can develope some with a different serie a team before bringing him back in a year or two,

          1. I have in fact seen EVERY game he has played. At first he seemed promising but TBH he hasn’t improved at all. He needs to be loaned out to get minutes. Then we’ll see if he’s a Serie A level player or not. At the moment he’s not Milan-worthy.

          2. Well bb i guess we will just have to disagree on that but it will deffently do him some good getting loaned out getting some consistent minutes and it should also help his value in case we were to decide to sell him down the road so basically a win win situation for everyone involved.

  4. Japhet will come to provide healthy competition on CB ,whie gabbia need to prove himself on loan . If gabbia failed on loan just get rid him . You cannot just stay forever as 5th CB
