AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is still looking for the right formula in the decisive phase of the season, in particular on the right flank.
MilanNews report how with 43 appearances out of the 44 total games the Rossoneri have played this season, Alexis Saelemaekers has the most appearances of any Milan player but since January he has been battling with Junior Messias for a starting spot.
Pioli never really change from the 4-2-3-1 formation that brought the team so much success, and therefore one of the duo has practically always played from the beginning. Even for the game against Fiorentina, Saelemaekers and Messias are in a battle to start.
Looking at the date, the Brazilian has played a total of 1629 minutes so far, and has scored 6 goals. The Belgian meanwhile has 2292 minutes, scoring only 2 goals but adding 3 assists. It must be said that these are uninspiring numbers that are making the club think ahead of next season and the summer window.
Messias has started more than Saelemaekers in recent weeks as the latter has struggled for the end product that could really reward the hard work he puts in on the field. Pioli has lately been preferring the Crotone loanee, but he is 9 years older and that will also be factored in to the decision on his option to buy.
