Romano: Milan set €150m stance amid Chelsea’s intention to scout Leao in Qatar

AC Milan are trying to secure the renewal of Rafael Leao but there are a number of clubs interested in signing him, above all Chelsea.

According to Fabrizio Romano in his latest column for CaughtOffisde, Chelsea ‘will have their people there to monitoring’ Rafael Leao during the World Cup in Qatar to see how he does with the Portuguese national team. Graham Potter ‘has spoken highly of him’, and there was a verbal offer turned down towards the end of the summer window.

Romano adds that from Milan’s perspective they ‘have no intention to accept anything less than Rafael Leao’s release clause’ which is set at €150m, while they are also hoping that he extends his current deal.

The Rossoneri management are ‘pushing to try to extend the player’s contract’ with Paolo Maldini ‘trying and trying, having conversations with the player and his family’.

Chelsea and other clubs will continue to monitor him, so it will not be easy to reach an agreement over new terms.

  1. Milan management needs to have the rights to extend additional 1 more year of service at a predetermined salary. No players leaves for free.

  2. So the stance is:
    – Ask for too much money so you can scare interested clubs in buying Leao ,
    – Continue to offer Leao less in salary than what he Is asking so he can continue refusing to re-sign,
    – Drag the whole thing all the way to June of 2024, so he can leave for free,
    – Do math gymnastics thru the media about how much money you saved by not extending the players, not taking into consideration how much you lost by not selling them a year earlier,
    – Make “fans” blame the players for being greedy

    1. “– Make “fans” blame the players for being greedy”

LOL. A true fan’s perspective. Next step: The management is there to ruin the club. 🙂

      1. A huge majority of the people blame Kessie , Donnarumma , Hakan, Romagnoli for leaving for free, while they defend the man who neither resigned them nor sold them.
Next step; SD incompetence is weakening the club every season

          1. Wow. The point is not that Hakan is such a great player, but that he is/was better than what we have now, and he wasn’t replaced.
Hakan is a better player than Brahim, Krunic or even CDK up to this point of his career.

  3. Sell Leao Now!!!! He won’t renew. $10 M a year is almost double $6 M with bonuses being offered. Buy Brugge’s Dutch winger Nolan immediately. Send Lanky Ketere the Belgian attacker, back to Brugge on loan and hope he gets back his confidence. He is now just occupying space in Milan after so much money was paid to bring him to San Siro.
