Gianluca Di Marzio has given an update on Leon Goretzka, confirming that Milan are the team closest to getting his signature.

Goretzka is one of the names that has been most extensively linked in view of the summer transfer window. Milan are looking to add a bit more experience to the midfield department having already added Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot, with the German seen as a perfect fit.

The right-sided role in the midfield trio has been the spot up for grabs this season under Massimiliano Allegri. With his deal expiring at Bayern Munich, Goretzka could arrive and immediately start, hopefully helping the Rossoneri in their potential return to the Champions League.

Goretzka: Milan ‘the most advanced’

Speaking on Sky, Di Marzio (via MilanNews) revealed the latest on Goretzka and he confirmed that Milan have taken the most concrete steps towards signing him.

“Several clubs have made moves, including AC Milan and Juventus. What I can say is that the Rossoneri are pushing hard. Milan are moving forward because they believe the German is the ideal addition to their already strong midfield,” he said.

“Of course, until there are final agreements and signatures, it’s always best to be cautious, especially when we’re talking about players of this type whose contracts are expiring. However, the signs are positive: Milan are the team most advanced and want to close this deal.”

  1. Well people can have their opinions about him but over the last 8 years at Bayern he has in average been featuring in 38.5 matches combined each season for them and that isn’t exactly an easy feat at such a club.
We need experienced players that can lead the torch for the younger ones.
I’ll say at the age of 31 we should offer him a 3 year contract with a club option for an extra one.

    1. Yes but also if we’re complaining about the tempo of our games not being up to par with better teams in CL, Goretzka hasn’t been up to par to Bayern’s playing tempo for a while now. In fact this season he’s mostly on the bench. Didn’t even come off the bench against Madrid.

So what are we really trying to buy here? Someone not good enough to start for Bayern?

      1. The problem isn’t tempo, he just doesn’t suit Kompany’s playing style, Leon is WAY above our current standard and is WAY better than our current midfielders, on par with Rabiot. Saying he’s not good enough for us while we have Ricci, Jashari, and Fofana is ludicrous. Bayern is the most complete team on the planet and levels above us. Leon walks into any midfield on the planet, he would be a better buy than Bernardo Silva.

        1. I agree. To be honest I might rather have Kovacic but that is just my personal preference. As he is leaving City at the end of season.

      2. Which tempo? Some of you people never saw some players play but you keep talking like you’re following them. Goretzka is a top player. He is physically not worse than any of our midfielders. And mentally he is 3 steps ahead of anyone but Modric.

        1. He would fit into Milan’s tempo because everything we do is slow. But what are we trying to do? Add pace, physicality or both? Physicality he has, speed is not his attribute. If it’s experience then yes, Goretzka has more than most of our players.

          1. Technique, vision. That is what this team is missing. Isn’t that obvious? If Modric doesn’t go forward almost nobody tries those killer passes.

      3. Well even if he sometimes is a sub he has nevertheless played 41 matches combined over what equates to 22 full matches so I gotta agree with Fabri here that he would be a great addition in the vein of Rabiot.
Arsenal and Barcelona has apparently also shown interest in him and if he was as bad as some proclaim around here then they wouldn’t be interested even if as things stands its only rumors.
I believe some of our younger players will benefit from rubbing shoulders with some of these players.
His experience at the biggest stages will turn out invaluable in my view.

          1. That is also fair enough as we can have different preferences but I’m pretty confident that he would do very well with us or any team that he might end up with.

  2. One of the most underrated players in football. I’d rather have Kovacic as he is great driving the ball forward but any of those 2 I’d be really happy to get.

  3. So, modric-41, rabiot-32, Goretzka-31. Really? Even of modrich is benched u still have an agi8 midfield. Will this work in UCL? I DON’T THINK THIS GUY IS ANYTHING SPECIAL THOUGH

      1. Allegri is asking for starters, so Goretzka will sure not be benched. Who do we have again, Ricci, jashari, (fofana and RLC who are useless). The former two are mostly registers whose position modric is occupying.
Does this sound good to u?

        1. Of course he won’t be benched. If I could pick I’d take Kovacic from City over Goretzka, but Goretzka is a top player as well. Ricci is staying considering how many minutes he played, Allegri obviously sees him as the 4th midfielder in this team, but I am not really positive any of the other players you mentioned will be at Milan after next summer. I expect Fofana and Jashari to be sold if there is a viable offer, and then maybe Kone signed from Sassuolo (or another player). So it would be something like Modric, Rabiot, Goretzka, Ricci, Kone and RLC. RLC is a good player for specific situations, not a bad 6th choice but if someone offers ok money for him he’ll leave as well so it means another signing.

    1. We need as possible strong player especially for serie a.
Milan so struggling in serie a that its not normal any more.
