GdS: Milan face big decisions on three players in the next three months

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management face big decisions on three players as they begin to think about the squad for next season, a report claims.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Milan have decided to let Ciprian Tatarusanu and Antonio Mirante go with their contracts set to expire in June, so Mike Maignan’s new deputy will be Marco Sportiello and evaluations are underway on the third goalkeeper.

Then, decisions must be made regarding Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Brahim Diaz and Aster Vranckx and they must come in the next three months. Ibra’s deal expires in June, so he and the club are evaluating what to do with the options being an extra season (as a player) or a farewell.

Brahim will return to Real Madrid on June 30 after a three-year loan but Milan will try to sign him permanently. They want to keep him and know that the Spaniard wants to stay, but the question is entirely economic because Los Blancos could accept €25-30m from another club or they could sell to the Rossoneri for €15-20m.

There is also no certainty regarding Vranckx because Milan – despite never using him – recognise his quality and his potential. They can buy him outright for €12m but it is likely that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will ask Wolfsburg for a discount or a new loan.

  1. I actually don’t mind the idea of signing Vranckx.

He’s spent a year with the team and he looks to me to have the physical characteristics to be an effective player. It’s hard to otherwise comment on him as a player.

If Pioli has faith enough in him I can see the integration into the midfield rotation being quite seamless. It would be nice to see him in action this year.

We likely have to spend twice as much on someone else for something close to a guarantee that he’d be a better fit than a Vrancks who is comfortable in the system and in Pioli’s plans.

As for Brahim. €20 for a guy who has barely improved in 3 years? Surely that money can be better spent elsewhere in combination with the use of Daniel Maldini who is growing into a player.

    1. I agree, he’s had the year to settle in and unless hes shown he cant do it, that settling in period is priceless for young players – look at Leao and Tonali in their first years. Im hoping we can see the same improvements in CDK next year.

    2. We could sign Vranckx but I am not sure we will play him over Tonali, Bennacer or Kruniuc. Brahim should leave he is not good enough for the team even though he has a far better season than CDK.
