Brahim Diaz of Real Madrid

CM: ‘An escape route’ – Milan’s Brahim coup possible on one condition

AC Milan have ‘never stopped following’ Brahim Diaz, according to a report, and his return could be possible but it would be reliant on one thing.

The Moroccan spent a very enjoyable three-year period at Milan, becoming a fan favourite in the process, and since Real Madrid brought him back to Spain, there have apparently been tabs kept on the player.

It is easy to see why. Now 25 years old, he still represents good value on the mercato. A tricky Trequartista who is still young enough to be moulded to the Rossoneri’s liking, and/or become profitable in years to come.

However, a return will only be possible on one condition according to a report from Calciomercato.com. Real and understood to be open to Diaz’s departure, but this requires a fee of €25 million to be paid.

In January, it is unlikely as Matteo Moretto has already suggested, but the report states that anything is possible in January, but whether that will include a possible move to the Diavolo remains to be seen.

The need for such a player could be minimised if Paulo Fonseca’s latest formational experiment goes to plan against Juventus this weekend, given he is set to revert to a three-man midfield.

  1. It’s such a waste of talent.

All of this coming and going.

If he returns I doubt he’ll produce the same form (not that he was exactly always awesome when he was at Milan).

As a general rule players do better when they stay at one club.

Look at Mbappe’s struggles at Real?

    What a waste.

So much wastage in modern football as players move like bar workers.

Not even bar workers would reach their potential moving this often.

    Cue the anger.

    1. Excuse me how is Mbappe moving to real a waste. Should he have stayed in psg indefinitely and not win a CL.
Sometimes you make sense with your rambles on the transfer market, and sometimes you lose the plot.

How has Mbappe leaving psg to real, a big step in his career mind you, a waste. So because you don’t like the transfer market, he should remain at psg and stagnate.

I don’t… I am trying to find the sense in that. Because this is Mbappe second big transfer in his entire career.

      1. Mbappe should definetly have left PSG, but the problem is that in Real Madrid, both he and Vinicius Jr overlap with each other. Vini is a LW turned some sort of an ST, Mbappe is an ST/LW who likes to start attacking from the left.
Him starting alongside Vini means he is now on the right side of the pitch, not exactly his bread and butter. He is still scoring and assisting, but you can feel he can do better than that. And overall, while Real Madrid might still end up winning the UCL, they have a very unbalanced team.
However, considering Real Madrid was the only team who went for him and could afford him, he didn’t have that much of a choice. It was either staying with PSG or going to Madrid.

        1. Exactly. The Mbappe problem at Madrid is not that he transferred, it’s that he went to the wrong team. There are too many players in similar roles there.

    2. Then look at Ronaldo, he moved from United as their best player and become the goat at Madrid. Zidane, from Bordeaux to Juve, then to Madrid. Modric…

But theres also Kaka and Shevchenko, declining miserably after their respective transfer.

Transfer is a part of football since decades ago, and its going to be for the next decades.

There’s no use whatsoever to think about that. So stop whining.

      1. Exactly it’s like saying yea we really shouldn’t have gotten Pirlo and Seedorf transfers and stick with Coco just to see how he’d turn out in the long run.

  2. Sometimes the problem lies at the door of agents. Poor guidance when it comes to a clear career path for players. And yes everybody will give an arm and a leg to play for Real but you need to consider whether you are needed (is there space) and whether you are better than those already there. The examples are endless, Chiesi, Zirkzee…

  3. Who would it be a coup for, Real?

Brahim is awful. Actually, that’s likely what makes him so appealing to Milan.

Milan seems to enjoy handing out long term deals to players it can’t then sell.

    1. Brahim Diaz scored important goals for Milan that made us qualify for the Champions League semi finals. He did the same thing for Real Madrid when they won the Champions League finals last season.

He also scored a hattrick for Morocco and has scored 7 goals and 3 assists in 8 games. Milan should have signed Brahim Diaz instead of doing a dry loan with no option to buy.

We wasted that money on Chukwueze since Brahim Diaz can play right wing and attacking midfield. He is wasting his talent at Real Madrid and we should sign him permanently if we have the opportunity to get him back.

  4. We all love Brahim, but let’s deal with the facts first.
Tijjani Reijnders is starring in the number 10 position, and is slowly becoming the most imnportant player on the team. Besides having Tiji as a number 10 (and since he’s originally a box-to-box midfielder) allows the coach to be flexible. He can press in the final third when we possess the ball, but can support the midfield when we need bodies in the middle third.

Brahim on the other hand is a very technically gifted player.. but quite frankly has a low football IQ. His style of play is not flexible. Perhaps this explains why he mainly shines in big games against teams like Juve and Napoli, and in the Champions League. This are games where your opponent will eventually attack you to win the game, forcing them to leave spaces that he can then attack. But he’s not very useful against low bloc defense teams, and those make at least half of Serie A.
And perhaps this also explains why Brahim doesn’t have big numbers. He scores “when it matters most”, but he doesn’t score “frequently”.
Reijnders is not exactly Kaka.. but he compensates makes up for the low G/A stats by being a dominant playmaker.

Bottom line.. Brahim is not a necessity.. especially given the unstable situation with our CB’s, and the disastrous situations with our RB and DM positions.

  5. Brahim was always meant to be a good and capable backup…both here (for Hakan) and at Real. You can find a cheaper capable backup than spending 25m on.

  6. I like Brahim, a nice guy who seems to love AC Milan. I thought that he wasn’t given a proper farewell, and he had tears in his eyes when he last played for Milan.

However Brahim is very short and slightly built. He is not competitive for headers, and is easily bumped to the ground by stronger and taller defenders. This will never change, of course, as it is in his genes.

I don’t think we need to spend 25 M on Brahim. We need to reinforce the defense. We have no deputy for Theo and our RB position is a disaster. Fofana could use the help with a good DM so that he doesn’t need to play every game (and he isn’t even a real DM although he is doing fairly well, there). We have CBs who regularly fail in games.

So, we need to fix the defense, period. That’s the priority. Sorry Brahim, but you aren’t needed.

    1. Brahim’s advantages are in the things that are opposite to his disadvantages. He’s more mobile and can turn quickly, wriggle out of tight spaces etc. Complete opposite to RLC for instance who basically played on his spot last year. They were both as effective but in different ways. It’s why Calro loves to bring him on at Real. He opens the game in a different way. But yes, he’s not worth the 25m and not needed as we have more pressing issues to deal with

  7. Brahim’s advantage is that Milan doesn’t really have a player like him in the squad. Players with his technicality and size are slowly being phased out of modern football, but I still see him as a good option. Milan’s biggest problem is that they don’t know how to get through a defense. Especially not a low block. Brahim with his size and skill will be an absolute menace for an Italian defense in the final 20 minutes of a game, and he will excell in the Champions League where the game is open. Most importantly, Milan needs players who loves the club. And those are rare in modern football. Brahim is one fo those, so if Real can be reasonable, I think we should take him back!
