Former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini has highlighted the importance of Milan’s 2-1 win over Inter earlier in the Serie A campaign.
Speaking whilst on Sky Sport 24 (via Milan News), Albertini explained that the victory over the Nerazzurri simultaneously created the belief in Milan and doubt in Inter.
“I think that was the match that created the right belief in Milan and some more doubts in Inter. That match is the perfect summation of this championship,” the 50-year-old said.
Inter had the chance to go 10 points clear at the top of Serie A during that Derby della Madonnina on February 5.
Inter had dominated the game and were 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Ivan Perisic in the first half.
The Rossoneri suddenly turned the game around though when French forward Olivier Giroud struck in the 75th and the 78th minutes to make it 2-1 to Milan.
Albertini feels that the Rossoneri could only do that because they were believing until the last minute that they had what it takes.
“Inter had dominated the derby for 60-70 minutes. Milan were in difficulty, but in their difficulties they were able to overturn the result, believing until the last minute,” he said.
Inter then went into a very poor patch of form which is when Milan started to take charge of the title race.
