Further reports are claiming that AC Milan are lining up a move for Luka Modric, who will soon leave Real Madrid after over a decade there.

Dreams and obstacles
If the name of the Croatian fascinates the world of Rossoneri, it should not be forgotten that Milan has been the dream of the midfielder since he was a child. Modric has never hidden the fact that he grew up with a red and black heart.
After all, he grew up with one of his idols being Zvonimir Boban, who created wonders on the pitch of San Siro. In short, Milan are not a team like all the others for him and a call from the Rossoneri would certainly tempt him at least.
As mentioned, the Croatian will not demand a huge salary. There are, however, some objective difficulties. The first is obvious: Milan will not play in European competitions in the 2025-26 season having finished eighth.

The second is represented by the intense competition. Even though Modric is right on the threshold of 40 years of age, his name is a strong attraction for several clubs around Europe who see what he can bring.
Italian destiny?
This is not the first time, however, that Modric’s name has been linked to a Serie A club. In the summer of 2018 there were rumours about him potentially joining the blue side of the city.
After he had won the Champions League with Real Madrid and then enchanted at the World Cup in Russia, dragging his national team to the final (then lost 4-2 against France) for the first time in its history, Inter tried to snatch him from Real.
It was an attempt that was in vain in the end, despite the promises of an intermediary. This time the scenario is a little different: Modric is a free agent, at the end of his career and could choose with his heart. A red and black heart.

When it comes to his age, as someone said, Modric at 40 is like 25 in serie A$$ years.
He has always been in top shape. He played almost 3000 minutes at the highest level of competition with Real Madrid this season. That’s way more than double than the amount of minutes Bennacer has played in the last 2 seasons combined and probably more minutes than Bennacer has ever played in a season.
Zlatan came from a low level league in MLS at 39 and when healthy he was still one of the best strikers and players in serie A.
Unlike Zlatan, Modric hasn’t stopped playing vs high level competition and he has never had any major injuries.
The things at Milan changed when a true champion and a winner like Zlatan entered the locker room in 2020. Modric will do the same.
He doesn’t need to play every week, nor he should. If you can get a year or 2, it will be great.
Look at Pedro at Lazio, who i wish Milan signed when he was leaving Roma. He is about to be 38 and just finished the season with 19 goal contributions in only 2000 minutes. Just for comparison, Leao had 25 goal contributions in 3500 minutes. A 38 year old is more productive than your “superstar”.

Ballon d’or really ? So I guess we can easily conclude that Cannavaro, the only Italian defender who has ever won a ballon d’or, is the greatest Italian defender or all times ? Ahead of Baresi, Maldini, Nesta, Scirea, Bergomi,… right ? Owen is better than Suárez and Lewandowski since he has won a ballon d’or and they didn’t.
UCL titles ? So Lucas Vázquez who has won 4 UCLs, is probably on of the greatest players of all times in his position ? And Benzema is better than Ronaldo, Van Basten, Romário, Lewandowski and Suárez.
The way you compare players is, individual skills, individual performances (irrespective of the team’s performances) and longevity. Collective titles are not relevant because a good player can find himself in a weak team (like Pulišić who has played well overall but has found himself a weak Milan) and individual prizes can’t be used to compare players from different eras.

I think this is wrong move. If Milan want experience then signing 40yr old Modric is not the right option. Get Milan Škriniar from PSG who is on loan at Fenerbahce. We need experience in the defense.

This signing, if it happens, will either be sort of a new Ibrahimović or a Mandžukić, no in-between.
Personally, since our midfield is shallower than a road pond, I’d rather we pick midfielders who might play for a long time rather than someone who might have to hold funerals for him during one of the games.
And if I’m Modrić, I’d weigh the decision to join a club owned by Redbird very carefully and take my time choosing.

In a season where Milan can afford any more gambles and needs certainties, having hired Allegri to ensure it, Modric is a HUGE gamble.
If we can get him on the staff, I’m all for it. But as an outfield player, this is a huge question mark. Can he suffice in Allegri’s defend and counter system?
Modric averaged 50mns a game at Madrid last season, all from the bench, with what, like a single goal? Yea, he is experienced and we do need leadership, but having Tare and Allegri there is already more leadership than we’ve had since Maldini.
