MN: Certainties, Gabbia, Kjaer and a signing – after CDK Milan must fix the CB department

By Oliver Fisher -

It seems that the wait for Charles De Ketelaere is almost over, but the AC Milan management cannot rest as they must now reinforce other areas too.

MilanNews writes that the centre-back position must be fixed too because at the moment the only certainties of the Rossoneri rearguard are Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu. Given that Milan will have 21 games in the first 3 months, alternatives are also needed.

At the moment the first alternative is Simon Kjaer but the Dane has not played since the beginning of December when he sustained a serious knee ligament injury. He came back to training at Milanello on 4 July but is yet to play a minute in a friendly, hence the uncertainties currently.

Then there is Matteo Gabbia whose days with Milan could well be numbered. He is considered ‘on the market’ but until another defender arrives, he will not move.

In terms of signings, the name of Japhet Tanganga remains top of the list. Milan want the player on a paid loan with option to buy set at €15-20m, but Fabio Paratici wants it to be an obligation to buy. The parties are continuing to speak regularly.

      1. RW is not CDK’s natural position. A RW is still needed as is a CB and DM. Not sure we will get one unless on a favorable loan (Ziyech) but we should. CB is a must – cannot really on Kajer yet and Gabbia is unproven still. N’Dicka would be my first choice. DM is needed. Have to replace Kessie. Poegba is still young and can’t expect too much from him and unwise to put that much pressure on him. Let him develop and he will be a solid player for us just like Tonali. We will probably just keep Bakayoko if we can’t/won’t spend ($) get anyone.

  1. The MilanNews writer do not understand squad registration rule. Replacing an academy product for non-homegrown who is over 21 years old? Are they trying to make Milan unable to register some of the players?
