CorSport: Milan hold Lyon midfielder in high esteem and weigh up contract offer

AC Milan retain an interest in signing Houssem Aouar whose deal with Lyon expires at the end of the season, according to a report.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), Aouar could be one of the famous opportunities that the management often talk about seizing. The Frenchman’s contract with Lyon will expire in June and he will only be 25 years old.

Aouar is a player who the Rossoneri hold in high esteem from a technical point of view, given he can be deployed in different roles both in the midfield and also on the forward line if needed too.

However, there is strong competition. Other Italian clubs also have asked his entourage for information, to understand the feasibility of the operation when factoring in commissions and potential salary.

The latest from Spain suggests that Real Betis are keen, but the player is waiting for Milan or Premier League clubs to make their stance known.

  1. He’d be a good signing but not sure where he’s fit. Is he to go in the AM position so would replace one or more of the three options we’ve got there? Are we just going to give up on De Ketelaere? I don’t think he could play alongside Tonali.

    1. He will be a replacement for Brahim Diaz. We don’t know if he will stay in Milan and he is inconsistent with his performances. We need more guarantees in the number 10 position and I think that is why Maldini wants Aouar.
He also offers some more bolstering for the central midfield positions, where he can be an alternative instead of deadwood Bakayoko 👌

    2. Aouar plays a bit deeper than CDK. I think this move would be more about depth and having formational options (4-3-3?) than necessarily replacing someone. Last season we had Kessie in the midfield mix and everyone found time, including a number of people tried out at CAM. For the two CM positions we essentially just have Bennacer, Tonali and Pobega. I appreciate Krunic but I don’t consider him an everyday starter. This move would add Aouar and we’d have essentially four “starters” for two central midfield positions, not a crazy amount, plus and option at CAM if CDK gets hurt or still isn’t performing next season, since Diaz is sure to go back to Madrid (so again, we’d have a depth of two players at CAM). Having two players for each position (except maybe GK) is basically the optimal “loadout” for a club.

  3. Replacement for Diaz and allows CDK to progress slower and not be rushed. Also Aouar can play in a midfield 3. Amazing signing to add this level of talent for so little $$ and at his age (24). Would shore up team for this season and beyond as who knows if Adli or CDK will ever develop into all star players (I think they will but u never know). Smart signing and we should not hesitate. You can never have enough creative midfield players in a squad.
